This is a backpatch of commits d942f9d9, 82b01026, and 6697aa2bc, back to release 9.1 where we introduced extensions which make heavy use of the PGXS infrastructure.

PostgreSQL is an advanced object-relational database management system that supports an extended subset of the SQL standard, including transactions, foreign keys, subqueries, triggers, user-defined types and functions.
