c9378d6c63 bindings: python: support free-threaded CPython
PEP 703 [0] discusses making the GIL optional in certain builds of the
CPython interpreter.

This build option was available experiementally in Python 3.13 but has
since been stabilized in Python 3.14 per PEP 779 [1].

According to the porting guide [2], there is no strict requirement that
C extensions must be thread-safe.

Experiments have shown that no logic changes are required if callers
use sychronization mechanisms provided by the Python standard library.

The documentation has been updated to call this out specifically using
terminology from the porting guide [3].

89ffee8349 bindings: python: migrate the gpiod._ext module to multi-phase init
Single-phase initialization has been classified as legacy within CPython
documentation [0] with multi-phase being its successor [1].

As such, switch to the new methodology.

2e47ad76bc Revert "bindings: python: replace PyModule_AddObjectRef() with PyModule_AddObject()"
This reverts commit b436d05809.

Commit 950ff3d1b3 ("bindings: python: drop python 3.9 support")
removed support for python v3.9 and with v3.10 now being the minimum
required version, we're now free to use PyModule_AddObjectRef().

b436d05809 bindings: python: replace PyModule_AddObjectRef() with PyModule_AddObject()
PyModule_AddObjectRef() was added in cpython v3.10 while libgpiod claims
to depend on python v3.9. Replace it with an older variant that steals the
reference to the added object on success.

4687bcc4f4 bindings: python: specify the symbols to export explicitly
We're currently unintentionally exporting a bunch of symbols that should
remain local to sub-modules. Use __all__ where appropriate so that we
don't re-export standard library functions such as select() etc. in the
gpiod module.

8da5c77a54 core: rename gpiod_version_string() to gpiod_api_version()
Instead of telling the user what type this function returns (they can
check it by looking at the prototype), tell them what the return value
actually represents.

242d88b7fe bindings: python: decouple the version of the bindings from libgpiod API version
Python bindings now have their own setup.py script and can be built
separately from the rest of the code-base. Let's decouple the python
package version from libgpiod API (but let's keep a module attribute
containing the API version) by introducing a version.py submodule that
can be executed by the setup.py script. This way we have a single
canonical place defining the version number.

1226f21745 treewide: rename EVENT_CLOCK to CLOCK
While we use it for edge event timestamps exclusively at the moment,
the actual enum names shouldn't limit its application and simply just
refer to existing clock types known by the GPIO uAPI. The relevant
functions are still called set/get_event_clock() as it's in line with
their functionality.

b7ba732e6a treewide: libgpiod v2 implementation
This commit is the result of a squash of all the commits created during
the development of libgpiod v2. This is done to preserve bisectability
of the git tree. It contains significant re-writes of the core C library
as well as C++ and python bindings. The tools have been adjusted to work
with the new API but have not undergone significant changes yet.

This commit contains the bulk of the work on libgpiod v2 but the
development continues with more changes planned.
