54615b95ff misc: port better to gcc -fsanitize=address 
Without these patches, ./configure CFLAGS='-fsanitize=address'
would compute incorrect values.  This patch fixes some (but not all)
test failures with recent glibc, with this configuration.

51a2203392 regex: suppress core dumps from detection code 
* m4/regex.m4 (gl_REGEX): Catch the SIGABRT and convert to SIGTERM
to suppress core dumps that may well occur on glibc systems.
These core dumps might not be cleaned up automatically, or could
trigger some system core dump handling logic.

5068051817 regex: avoid glibc deadlock during configure 
glibc has a known bug where certain corruptions of the heap can
cause malloc to default to printing a debug message that includes
a backtrace, but the act of getting the backtrace uses dlopen
which in turn calls into malloc, causing a recursive lock ending
in deadlock.  Thus, when configure is probing for a known glibc
heap corruption bug, the overall configure would hang.

The solution suggested by glibc developers is to force malloc
to quit printing debug messages, which avoids recursive malloc.

* m4/regex.m4 (gl_REGEX): Avoid recursive malloc deadlock when
glibc bug 15078 in turn triggers bug 16159.

ade95dda0d regex: port to non-glibc/lock-using systems 
Since 29-05-2013 commit, 55ba71f4, compilation on a non-glibc
system with GNULIB_LOCK would fail due to absence of the
included "glthread/lock.h".  This would affect any package
for which the "lock" module is used only by the regex module,
and not explicitly used.
* m4/regex.m4 (gl_PREREQ_REGEX): Require gl_GLIBC21.
* modules/regex (Depends-on) [!GLIBC && $ac_use_included_regex]:
Add a dependency on the "lock" module.

92f3a4c8e5 regex-tests, regex: allow glibc re_search behavior 
The data passed to re_search by the test for glibc bug 15078 is a
multi-character collating element followed by a single character.
According to POSIX, "It is unspecified whether a non-matching list
expression matches a multi-character collating element that is not
matched by any of the expressions."

One of differences between glibc and gnulib implementations of
re_search is that glibc re_search matches multi-character
collating elements in that case while gnulib re_search doesn't.

Since both re_search implementations conform to standard, change
the test to allow glibc re_search behavior.

* tests/test-regex.c (main): In test for glibc bug 15078, reformat
re_search input data to make the multi-character collating element
in it clearly visible, and treat re_search return code 0 as valid.
* m4/regex.m4 (gl_REGEX): Likewise.

6169015de8 regex: port to mingw's recent addition of undeclared alarm 
On mingw (at least, when cross-compiling with Fedora 18's
mingw32-headers-2.0.999-0.15.trunk.20121110.fc18.noarch build),
compilation of test-regex fails:

test-regex.c: In function 'main':
test-regex.c:42:11: error: 'SIGALRM' undeclared (first use in this function)
test-regex.c:42:11: note: each undeclared identifier is reported only
once for each function it appears in
test-regex.c:43:3: warning: implicit declaration of function 'alarm'

It turns out that recent mingw64 added an export of alarm() and
SIGALRM, but guarded their declarations behind __USE_MINGW_ALARM
(default off, and with alarm() only in the non-standard <io.h>);
so the m4 tests were setting HAVE_ALARM to 1 based on link success
but then failing to compile.

* doc/posix-functions/alarm.texi (alarm): Document that alarm
exists but still doesn't work in newer mingw.
* m4/frexp.m4 (gl_FUNC_FREXP_WORKS): Check for alarm declaration,
not existence.  Ensure SIGALRM is not trapped.
* m4/mktime.m4 (gl_FUNC_MKTIME): Likewise.
* m4/regex.m4 (gl_REGEX): Likewise.
* m4/remainderf.m4 (gl_FUNC_REMAINDERF_WORKS): Likewise.
* tests/test-regex.c (main): Use correct probe for alarm.

6668cfa30c regex-tests, regex: fix bug: memset undeclared 
* tests/test-regex.c: Don't include regex.h twice.  Include
string.h, to declare memset.  Christensen's report also mentioned
this issue.
* m4/regex.m4 (gl_REGEX): Keep test program more in sync with
test-regex.c, to avoid future problems like this.  Remove
AC_INCLUDES_DEFAULT.  Include <string.h>.  Don't include <regex.h>
twice.

f9d2fe251f regex: allow inclusion of <regex.h> before <limits.h> 
Without this patch, portable programs had to include <limits.h> before
<regex.h> if they wanted a consistent value for RE_DUP_MAX.
I ran into this problem with a test version of GNU grep on Solaris 8.
* lib/regex.h: Include <limits.h> if _REGEX_INCLUDE_LIMITS_H.
This is done conditionally so that this change can be merged
back to glibc.
* m4/regex.m4 (gl_REGEX): Define _REGEX_INCLUDE_LIMITS_H if
using the included regex.

b187ff0528 regex.m4: correct the reversed range endpoint ([b-a]) test 
* m4/regex.m4: When requiring that [b-a] evoke failure,
use RE_NO_EMPTY_RANGES.  This makes this entire configure-time
test pass once again for x86-based systems.

18f8ae4bbe ensure that the regexp [b-a] is diagnosed as invalid

dea6f7089d Fix regex code so it doesn't rely on strcasecmp. 
* lib/regex_internal.h: Include <langinfo.h> only if _LIBC is defined.
Otherwise, include gnulib's langinfo.h.
* lib/regcomp.c (init_dfa): Don't use strcasecmp, as it can have
undesirable behavior in non-C locales.  Instead, rely on locale_charset.
* m4/regex.m4 (gl_PREREQ_REGEX): Don't require AM_LANGINFO_CODESET.
* modules/regex (FILES): Remove m4/codeset.m4.
(Depends-on): Add localcharset.  Remove strcase.

f7328f9d0a Avoid mempcpy in the regex code, as the string.h mempcpy stuff 
is causing more trouble than it's curing.
* lib/regex_internal.h (__mempcpy): Remove.
* lib/regcomp.c (regerror): Rewrite to avoid the need for mempcpy
(and make the code a tad smaller to boot).
* m4/regex.m4 (gl_PREREQ_REGEX): Don't check for mempcpy.

331f6ee713 * lib/regex_internal.c (re_string_reconstruct): Handle 
offset < pstr->valid_raw_len && pstr->offsets_needed case.
Ensure no bytes read before raw_mbs array.  Pass a saved copy of
pstr->valid_len - 1 rather than pstr->valid_raw_len - 1 to
re_string_context_at.

now requires it.
(gl_PREREQ_REGEX): Don't check for locale.h any more, since
