ffd8b49175 Use xmlReadFile() from libxml2 instead of xmlParseFile() (patch #381) 
This function is slightly preferred and will allow to discard legacy
code when compiling the library for win32 UI.

d54c4f2c6e Use PKG_CHECK_MODULES for GLib detection. 
Rather than raw pkg-config, that doesn't play well when cross-compiling.

b2a066b013 Remove duplicate sdl-config calls and avoid the use of CPPFLAGS. 
SDL_CFLAGS and SDL_LIBS variables are being informed to automake.

954f0f4678 Don't use CFLAGS user variable for warnings or pthread options. 
Instead, use AM_CFLAGS or foo_CFLAGS. CFLAGS appears after AM_CFLAGS
in automake rules. Therefore, the user could supersede any switch.
