0342b1f542 Sorting is now done using a sorting index rather than loading the entire 
result set into memory and doing a merge sort.  The old merge sort technique
was a carry-over from SQLite version 1.  The new method uses a bounded amount
of memory and scales to much larger result sets.  There are still errors:
some 39 regression tests fail. (CVS 2653)

495c09a49a Make the ORDER BY clause return equal elements in the same order they were 
seen (a stable sort).  It was returning them in exactly the reverse order. (CVS 2439)

9bb575fd72 Fix a naming conflict between sqlite versions 2 and 3. An open sqlite3 
connection now *must* be called "sqlite3".  You cannot call it "sqlite".
This might break existing code. (CVS 1941)

92f02c31d4 Transactions commit on the last sqlite3_step(), not on sqlite3_finalize(). 
This allows the sqlite3_step() to return SQLITE_BUSY if the commit is
blocked by a lock.  Ticket #885. (CVS 1928)

element.  sqlite3FreeX declared properly.  Don't allow run-time expression

ff13c7d6a3 If a commit fails due to lock contention right after the COMMIT command, take 
the database back out of autocommit mode.  Do not rollback.  This gives the
user the chance to try the COMMIT again. (CVS 1551)
