## Summary
RocksDB's `.clang-tidy` enables `cppcoreguidelines-special-member-functions`,
`cppcoreguidelines-virtual-class-destructor` and the noexcept-move checks,
and clang warns `-Wdeprecated-copy-with-user-provided-dtor`. A full scan
reports 476 findings. In most of them, a class declares a destructor (or
copy operations) but leaves the rest of copy/move implicit. That has two
costs. Readers can't tell whether a class may be copied or moved. And
resource-owning classes keep an implicit copy that would double-free if
anyone ever used it. This diff resolves 453 of the 476.
Approach, picked per class from least to most invasive:
1. An empty user-provided destructor becomes `= default`. This covers most
interface classes, such as `virtual ~X() {}` -> `= default`. If the
class is still copied, that would only rename the deprecated-copy
warning, so the destructor is removed instead when nothing needs it
(`Customizable`, `TableFactory` and `InternalKeyComparator` inherit a
virtual one; `IteratorWrapperBase` isn't polymorphic), and
`MemTableRep::KeyComparator` gets defaulted copy and move.
2. Classes whose copy is already deleted get explicitly deleted move
operations too. Move was already unavailable, so this only documents
it.
3. Resource-owning classes that are never copied get deleted copy and move
operations. Examples: the C API wrapper structs, which run a
`destructor_` callback (edited in `tools/c_api_gen/c_base.cc` and
regenerated into `db/c.cc`); `ShardedCache`, which frees its shards;
iterator wrappers; and RAII handles.
4. Value types that are copied or moved get the missing operations as
`= default`, which keeps their current behavior.
5. Exception specifications of existing functions are unchanged, except
for `WriteBatch`'s move assignment (below): no other `noexcept` is
added or removed. Only the move operations this diff
newly declares (`Comparator`, `FileSampledStats` and the thread-local
`Entry`) are `noexcept`; they copy only scalars or atomics.
`WriteBatch`'s copy and move assignment destroyed `*this` and
placement-new'ed a new `WriteBatch` over it. That is undefined behavior
when `*this` is a subclass, and if the copy constructor threw, `*this`
was left destroyed and was later destroyed again. Move assignment now
assigns member-wise and ends in the same state as the move constructor,
which leaves `has_key_with_ts_`, the timestamp-size tracking and the
other fields it doesn't copy at their defaults. `rep_` is swapped through
a temporary, because a plain string move-assignment can keep the old
buffer (e.g. a large batch reset with `batch = WriteBatch()` would keep
its memory). Nothing in it can throw, so it is now `noexcept`. Copy
assignment copies into a temporary and moves it in, so a throwing copy
leaves `*this` unchanged.
Bugs this exposed and fixed:
- `RestoreAfterCopyOrCreateWorkItem` (backup engine): the hand-written
move constructor and assignment moved only some fields, so `from_file`
and `to_file` were empty after `push_back(std::move(...))`. A restore
that hit a checksum mismatch then reported "While restoring -> : ..."
without file names. It now uses the compiler-generated moves, which
are still `noexcept`.
- `ExternalSstFileIngestionJob` lived in a `std::vector`, and its
destructor frees raw-owned pointers, so the implicit copy used on
vector reallocation would double-free. Its file batches also point into
its own inline file storage, so neither a copy nor a move is safe after
`Prepare()`. Copy and move are now deleted, and `DBImpl` holds jobs
through `std::unique_ptr`.
Compatibility: no public class loses an operation users can call. Public
interfaces mostly only get `virtual ~X() = default;`.
`WriteBatch`'s move assignment becomes `noexcept`, which is not part of
the mangled name, so the ABI doesn't change.
`SubcompactionJobInfo` and `CompactionJobInfo` intentionally stay C++20
aggregates, so users' aggregate and designated initializers keep
compiling. `Configurable`, `CompareInterface`, `WriteBatchBase`,
`ObjectLibrary::Entry` and `MemTableRep::KeyComparator` declare defaulted
copy and move, and `Customizable` no longer declares a destructor. As a
result, `Configurable` and `Customizable` subclasses that declare no
destructor or copy operations of their own now move their
registered-options list instead of copying it. In-tree, these are the
mutable-options adapters, the table factories, the memory allocators and
test classes; all are held through smart pointers or used in place, and
`Clone()` copies, so none is moved by value.
Not changed (23): `IODebugContext` (custom deep copy plus a
`std::shared_mutex`), `DBWithColumnFamilies` in db_bench (stored in a
`std::vector` with non-movable members), `Snapshot`'s protected virtual
destructor (intended), `ManagedSnapshot`, the `SubcompactionJobInfo` and
`CompactionJobInfo` aggregates, and the 16 noexcept-move-constructor and
noexcept-swap findings on existing functions, including `autovector`'s
move assignment (adding `noexcept` would change their exception
specifications). Copying `ManagedSnapshot` already double-releases the
snapshot. Fixing that needs a real move implementation and is a behavior
change, so it is left for a separate diff.

## Summary
RocksDB's `.clang-tidy` enables `modernize-use-override`, and clang
reports `-Winconsistent-missing-destructor-override` when a class marks
its other overrides `override` but not its destructor. A full scan finds
190 `modernize-use-override`, 100
`inconsistent-missing-destructor-override` and 2 `suggest-override`
findings in existing code. Each one comes back whenever a nearby line is
edited. They also leave classes where it isn't obvious which methods are
overrides and which introduce new virtuals.
This diff marks every overriding member function and destructor
`override` and drops the redundant `virtual` on them. It also changes
`final override` to plain `final`, following the check's default. Methods
that introduce a new virtual keep `virtual`. Most edits are clang-tidy's
own fix-its, applied mechanically and then clang-formatted.
Compatibility: no signatures change. In public headers the only effect is
`override` on existing overrides (mostly destructors, plus
`Cache::Name()` and `Cache::GetPrintableOptions()`, whose base
declarations are unconditional), so user code that subclasses these types
is unaffected. Every touched class now marks all of its overrides
consistently. This matters because a partially-marked class would make
clang emit `-Winconsistent-missing-override` in user builds.

## Summary
RocksDB's `.clang-tidy` enables the `clang-analyzer-*` and `bugprone-*`
checks. A full scan of the repo still reports 78 findings from these
checks in existing code. Each time a nearby line is edited, they come
back as noise, and a few of them are real defects. This diff resolves 73
of the 78; upstream has since fixed one more, and the four left are
listed under "Intentionally not changed". Some fixes repair real bugs.
The rest make the code's intent explicit to the analyzer without
changing behavior.
Real bugs fixed:
- `port/mmap.cc`: `MemMapping::operator=(MemMapping&&)` ran the
destructor on `*this`, `memcpy`'d over a non-trivially-copyable object,
then placement-new'd the source. That is undefined behavior, and `*this`
can be the base subobject of a `TypedMemMapping`. It now moves the
members one by one, and the previous mapping is released through a
local `MemMapping`.
- `port/mmap.h`: `TypedMemMapping::operator=(MemMapping&&)` had no
`return *this;`, so calling it was undefined behavior.
- `cache/typed_cache.h`: `if constexpr (sizeof(TCreateContext) > 0)` is
always true, so the branch meant for empty create contexts (for example
`BlobContentsCreator`) could never run. The check is now
`!std::is_empty_v<TCreateContext>`. Existing instantiations still call
the same `Create` function.
- `cassandra_row_merge_test.cc`: the test reused a vector after
`std::move`-ing it into `RowValue::Merge(std::vector<RowValue>&&)`. That
only worked because `Merge` happens not to consume its input. The test
now rebuilds the input.
Behavior-preserving changes:
- Virtual calls in constructors and destructors are now explicitly
qualified (for example `DBImpl::CloseImpl()` in `~DBImpl`). During
construction and destruction, dispatch already resolved to these
functions.
- Stale `/*name=*/` argument comments now match the parameter names.
- `unique_ptr::release()` after a successful cache `Insert` (where the
cache takes ownership) uses `[[maybe_unused]] T* released = x.release();`,
the pattern already used in `table_cache.cc`.
- Removed `class Mutex;` and `class StaticMeta;` forward declarations
that sat in the wrong namespace.
- Added default member initializers for the
`TablePropertiesCollectorFactory::Context` fields that its default
constructor left uninitialized.
- Smaller cleanups: a redundant `cond ? 3 : 3` in a test,
`sizeof(std::string)` in a memory estimate, and an explicit
`Cleanable` base move via `up_cast`. Tests that intentionally use
moved-from objects now carry `NOLINT(bugprone-use-after-move)`,
matching the existing convention.
Intentionally not changed: enum casts in tests that check invalid-value
handling; three `clang-analyzer-core.NullDereference` reports the
analyzer can't prove safe (the C API timestamp out-parameters in
`db/c.cc`, which are only written when the caller asked for a
timestamp, and the waiter-list walk in `util/async_file_reader.cc`);
bit-flag enums in public headers (`FileOpenContract`,
`OptionTypeFlags`), where OR-combined values are valid; ownership
transfers the analyzer can't see across translation units
(`partitioned_index_reader.cc`, `fs_posix.cc`); and the intentional
two-separator check in `file/filename.cc`.

Add experimental coroutine interfaces for implementing asynchronous basic and full `ExternalTableReader`s. Implementations opt in through `CoroExternalTableReaderBase<Mode>` by providing `GetCoroutine()` and may override `MultiGetCoroutine()`; the default implementation runs the individual Get operations concurrently. The external-table adapter uses these APIs when supported and otherwise retains the existing synchronous behavior.
As a smaller supporting fix, Single Get coroutine reads using non-mmap, non-direct I/O on a kFSBuffer-capable `FileSystem` now use `FSRandomAccessFile::SubmitReadAsync()` instead of falling back to synchronous `Read()`.

Summary:
A follow-up to https://github.com/facebook/rocksdb/issues/13904 which was incomplete in updating CI jobs to support C++20 because the C++20 usage was only in tests. Here we add subtle C++20 usage in the public API ("using enum" feature in db.h) to force the issue.
A lot of the work for this PR was in updating the Ubuntu22 docker image, for earlier compiler/runtime versions supporting C++20, and generating a new Ubuntu24 docker image, for later compiler/runtime versions. The Ubuntu22 image needed to be updated because there are incompatibilities with clang-13 + c++20 + libstdc++ for gcc 11, seen on these examples
```
#include <chrono>
int main(int argc, char *argv[]) {
std::chrono::microseconds d = {}; return 0;
}
```
and
```
#include <coroutine>
int main() { return 0; }
```
The second was causing recurring failures in build-linux-clang-13-asan-ubsan-with-folly, now fixed.
So we have to install clang's libc++ to compile with clang-13. I haven't been able to get this to work with some of the libraries like benchmark, glog, and/or gflags, but I'm able to compile core RocksDB with clang-13. On this docker image, an extra compiler parameter is needed to compile with gcc and glog because it's built from source perhaps not perfectly, because the ubuntu package transitively conflicts with libc++.
The Ubuntu24 image seems to be low-drama and generally work for testing out newer compiler versions. The mingw build uses Ubuntu24 because the mingw package on Ubuntu22 uses a gcc version that is too old.
And the mass of other code changes are trying to work around new warnings, mostly from clang-analyze, which I upgraded to clang-18 in CI.

Summary:
The following are risks associated with pointer-to-pointer reinterpret_cast:
* Can produce the "wrong result" (crash or memory corruption). IIRC, in theory this can happen for any up-cast or down-cast for a non-standard-layout type, though in practice would only happen for multiple inheritance cases (where the base class pointer might be "inside" the derived object). We don't use multiple inheritance a lot, but we do.
* Can mask useful compiler errors upon code change, including converting between unrelated pointer types that you are expecting to be related, and converting between pointer and scalar types unintentionally.
I can only think of some obscure cases where static_cast could be troublesome when it compiles as a replacement:
* Going through `void*` could plausibly cause unnecessary or broken pointer arithmetic. Suppose we have
`struct Derived: public Base1, public Base2`. If we have `Derived*` -> `void*` -> `Base2*` -> `Derived*` through reinterpret casts, this could plausibly work (though technical UB) assuming the `Base2*` is not dereferenced. Changing to static cast could introduce breaking pointer arithmetic.
* Unnecessary (but safe) pointer arithmetic could arise in a case like `Derived*` -> `Base2*` -> `Derived*` where before the Base2 pointer might not have been dereferenced. This could potentially affect performance.
With some light scripting, I tried replacing pointer-to-pointer reinterpret_casts with static_cast and kept the cases that still compile. Most occurrences of reinterpret_cast have successfully been changed (except for java/ and third-party/). 294 changed, 257 remain.
A couple of related interventions included here:
* Previously Cache::Handle was not actually derived from in the implementations and just used as a `void*` stand-in with reinterpret_cast. Now there is a relationship to allow static_cast. In theory, this could introduce pointer arithmetic (as described above) but is unlikely without multiple inheritance AND non-empty Cache::Handle.
* Remove some unnecessary casts to void* as this is allowed to be implicit (for better or worse).
Most of the remaining reinterpret_casts are for converting to/from raw bytes of objects. We could consider better idioms for these patterns in follow-up work.
I wish there were a way to implement a template variant of static_cast that would only compile if no pointer arithmetic is generated, but best I can tell, this is not possible. AFAIK the best you could do is a dynamic check that the void* conversion after the static cast is unchanged.

There are some time-related POSIX APIs that are not available on Windows
(e.g. `localtime_r`), which we have worked around by providing our own
implementations in `port/sys_time.h`. This workaround actually relies on
some ambiguity: on Windows, a call to `localtime_r` calls
`ROCKSDB_NAMESPACE::port::localtime_r` (which is pulled into
`ROCKSDB_NAMESPACE` by a using-declaration), while on other platforms
it calls the global `localtime_r`. This works fine as long as there is only one
candidate function; however, it breaks down when there is more than one
`localtime_r` visible in a scope.
The patch fixes this by introducing `ROCKSDB_NAMESPACE::port::{TimeVal, GetTimeOfDay, LocalTimeR}`

Users can set the priority for file reads associated with their operation by setting `ReadOptions::rate_limiter_priority` to something other than `Env::IO_TOTAL`. Rate limiting `VerifyChecksum()` and `VerifyFileChecksums()` is the motivation for this PR, so it also includes benchmarks and minor bug fixes to get that working.
`RandomAccessFileReader::Read()` already had support for rate limiting compaction reads. I changed that rate limiting to be non-specific to compaction, but rather performed according to the passed in `Env::IOPriority`. Now the compaction read rate limiting is supported by setting `rate_limiter_priority = Env::IO_LOW` on its `ReadOptions`.
There is no default value for the new `Env::IOPriority` parameter to `RandomAccessFileReader::Read()`. That means this PR goes through all callers (in some cases multiple layers up the call stack) to find a `ReadOptions` to provide the priority. There are TODOs for cases I believe it would be good to let user control the priority some day (e.g., file footer reads), and no TODO in cases I believe it doesn't matter (e.g., trace file reads).
The API doc only lists the missing cases where a file read associated with a provided `ReadOptions` cannot be rate limited. For cases like file ingestion checksum calculation, there is no API to provide `ReadOptions` or `Env::IOPriority`, so I didn't count that as missing.

Summary:
For performance purposes, the lower level routines were changed to use a SystemClock* instead of a std::shared_ptr<SystemClock>. The shared ptr has some performance degradation on certain hardware classes.
For most of the system, there is no risk of the pointer being deleted/invalid because the shared_ptr will be stored elsewhere. For example, the ImmutableDBOptions stores the Env which has a std::shared_ptr<SystemClock> in it. The SystemClock* within the ImmutableDBOptions is essentially a "short cut" to gain access to this constant resource.
There were a few classes (PeriodicWorkScheduler?) where the "short cut" property did not hold. In those cases, the shared pointer was preserved.
Using db_bench readrandom perf_level=3 on my EC2 box, this change performed as well or better than 6.17:
6.17: readrandom : 28.046 micros/op 854902 ops/sec; 61.3 MB/s (355999 of 355999 found)
6.18: readrandom : 32.615 micros/op 735306 ops/sec; 52.7 MB/s (290999 of 290999 found)
PR: readrandom : 27.500 micros/op 871909 ops/sec; 62.5 MB/s (367999 of 367999 found)

Summary:
Introduces and uses a SystemClock class to RocksDB. This class contains the time-related functions of an Env and these functions can be redirected from the Env to the SystemClock.
Many of the places that used an Env (Timer, PerfStepTimer, RepeatableThread, RateLimiter, WriteController) for time-related functions have been changed to use SystemClock instead. There are likely more places that can be changed, but this is a start to show what can/should be done. Over time it would be nice to migrate most (if not all) of the uses of the time functions from the Env to the SystemClock.
There are several Env classes that implement these functions. Most of these have not been converted yet to SystemClock implementations; that will come in a subsequent PR. It would be good to unify many of the Mock Timer implementations, so that they behave similarly and be tested similarly (some override Sleep, some use a MockSleep, etc).
Additionally, this change will allow new methods to be introduced to the SystemClock (like https://github.com/facebook/rocksdb/issues/7101 WaitFor) in a consistent manner across a smaller number of classes.

Summary:
This PR does a few things:
1. The MockFileSystem class was split out from the MockEnv. This change would theoretically allow a MockFileSystem to be used by other Environments as well (if we created a means of constructing one). The MockFileSystem implements a FileSystem in its entirety and does not rely on any Wrapper implementation.
2. Make the RocksDB test suite work when MOCK_ENV=1 and ENCRYPTED_ENV=1 are set. To accomplish this, a few things were needed:
- The tests that tried to use the "wrong" environment (Env::Default() instead of env_) were updated
- The MockFileSystem was changed to support the features it was missing or mishandled (such as recursively deleting files in a directory or supporting renaming of a directory).
3. Updated the test framework to have a ROCKSDB_GTEST_SKIP macro. This can be used to flag tests that are skipped. Currently, this defaults to doing nothing (marks the test as SUCCESS) but will mark the tests as SKIPPED when RocksDB is upgraded to a version of gtest that supports this (gtest-1.10).
I have run a full "make check" with MEM_ENV, ENCRYPTED_ENV, both, and neither under both MacOS and RedHat. A few tests were disabled/skipped for the MEM/ENCRYPTED cases. The error_handler_fs_test fails/hangs for MEM_ENV (presumably a timing problem) and I will introduce another PR/issue to track that problem. (I will also push a change to disable those tests soon). There is one more test in DBTest2 that also fails which I need to investigate or skip before this PR is merged.
Theoretically, this PR should also allow the test suite to run against an Env loaded from the registry, though I do not have one to try it with currently.
Finally, once this is accepted, it would be nice if there was a CircleCI job to run these tests on a checkin so this effort does not become stale. I do not know how to do that, so if someone could write that job, it would be appreciated :)

- Moves the test::RandomHumanReadableString into Random
- Moves the DestroyDir method into file_utils
- Moves the SetupSyncPointsToMockDirectIO into sync_point.
- Moves the FaultInjection Env and FS classes under env
These changes allow all of the tools to build without dependencies on test_util, thereby simplifying the build dependencies. By moving the FaultInjection code, the dependency in db_stress on different libraries for debug vs release was eliminated.
Tested both release and debug builds via Make and CMake for both static and shared libraries.
More work remains to clean up how the tools are built and remove some unnecessary dependencies. There is also more work that should be done to get the Makefile and CMake to align in their builds -- what is in the libraries and the sizes of the executables are different.

This is a simple edit to have two #include file paths be consistent within range_del_aggregator.{h,cc} with everywhere else.
The impact of this inconsistency is that it actual breaks a Bazel based build on the Windows platform. The same pragma once failure occurs with both Windows Visual C++ 2019 and clang for Windows 9.0. Bazel's "sandboxing" of the builds causes both compilers to not properly recognize "rocksdb/types.h" and "include/rocksdb/types.h" to be the same file (also comparator.h). My guess is that the backslash versus forward slash mixing within path names is the underlying issue.
But, everything builds fine once the include paths in these two source files are consistent with the rest of the repository.

Summary:
The current Env API encompasses both storage/file operations, as well as OS related operations. Most of the APIs return a Status, which does not have enough metadata about an error, such as whether its retry-able or not, scope (i.e fault domain) of the error etc., that may be required in order to properly handle a storage error. The file APIs also do not provide enough control over the IO SLA, such as timeout, prioritization, hinting about placement and redundancy etc.
This PR separates out the file/storage APIs from Env into a new FileSystem class. The APIs are updated to return an IOStatus with metadata about the error, as well as to take an IOOptions structure as input in order to allow more control over the IO.
The user can set both ```options.env``` and ```options.file_system``` to specify that RocksDB should use the former for OS related operations and the latter for storage operations. Internally, a ```CompositeEnvWrapper``` has been introduced that inherits from ```Env``` and redirects individual methods to either an ```Env``` implementation or the ```FileSystem``` as appropriate. When options are sanitized during ```DB::Open```, ```options.env``` is replaced with a newly allocated ```CompositeEnvWrapper``` instance if both env and file_system have been specified. This way, the rest of the RocksDB code can continue to function as before.
This PR also ports PosixEnv to the new API by splitting it into two - PosixEnv and PosixFileSystem. PosixEnv is defined as a sub-class of CompositeEnvWrapper, and threading/time functions are overridden with Posix specific implementations in order to avoid an extra level of indirection.
The ```CompositeEnvWrapper``` translates ```IOStatus``` return code to ```Status```, and sets the severity to ```kSoftError``` if the io_status is retryable. The error handling code in RocksDB can then recover the DB automatically.

Since we do not evict a file's blocks from block cache before that file
is deleted, we require a file's cache ID prefix is both unique and
non-reusable. However, the Windows functionality we were relying on only
guaranteed uniqueness. That meant a newly created file could be assigned
the same cache ID prefix as a deleted file. If the newly created file
had block offsets matching the deleted file, full cache keys could be
exactly the same, resulting in obsolete data blocks returned from cache
when trying to read from the new file.
We noticed this when running on FAT32 where compaction was writing out
