2076db2aea Move the backup-block logic from XLogInsert to a new file, xloginsert.c.
xlog.c is huge, this makes it a little bit smaller, which is nice. Functions
related to putting together the WAL record are in xloginsert.c, and the
lower level stuff for managing WAL buffers and such are in xlog.c.

Also move the definition of XLogRecord to a separate header file. This
causes churn in the #includes of all the files that write WAL records, and
redo routines, but it avoids pulling in xlog.h into most places.

728f152e07 Add rmgr callback to name xlog record types for display purposes.
This is primarily useful for the upcoming pg_xlogdump --stats feature,
but also allows to remove some duplicated code in the rmgr_desc
routines.

Due to the separation and harmonization, the output of dipsplayed
records changes somewhat. But since this isn't enduser oriented
content that's ok.

It's potentially desirable to further change pg_xlogdump's display of
records. It previously wasn't possible to show the record type
separately from the description forcing it to be in the last
column. But that's better done in a separate commit.

3c4cf08087 Rework 'MOVE ALL' to 'ALTER .. ALL IN TABLESPACE'
As 'ALTER TABLESPACE .. MOVE ALL' really didn't change the tablespace
but instead changed objects inside tablespaces, it made sense to
rework the syntax and supporting functions to operate under the
'ALTER (TABLE|INDEX|MATERIALIZED VIEW)' syntax and to be in
tablecmds.c.

Pointed out by Alvaro, who also suggested the new syntax.

Back-patch to 9.4.

76e91b38ba Add ALTER TABLESPACE ... MOVE command
This adds a 'MOVE' sub-command to ALTER TABLESPACE which allows moving sets of
objects from one tablespace to another. This can be extremely handy and avoids
a lot of error-prone scripting. ALTER TABLESPACE ... MOVE will only move
objects the user owns, will notify the user if no objects were found, and can
be used to move ALL objects or specific types of objects (TABLES, INDEXES, or
MATERIALIZED VIEWS).

82b1b213ca Adjust more backend functions to return OID rather than void.
This is again intended to support extensions to the event trigger
functionality. This may go a bit further than we need for that
purpose, but there's some value in being consistent, and the OID
may be useful for other purposes also.

Extracted from a larger patch by Dimitri Fontaine. It is hoped that

well.

1609797c25 Clean up the #include mess a little.
walsender.h should depend on xlog.h, not vice versa. (Actually, the
inclusion was circular until a couple hours ago, which was even sillier;
but Bruce broke it in the expedient rather than logically correct
direction.) Because of that poor decision, plus blind application of
pgrminclude, we had a situation where half the system was depending on
xlog.h to include such unrelated stuff as array.h and guc.h. Clean up
the header inclusion, and manually revert a lot of what pgrminclude had
done so things build again.

This episode reinforces my feeling that pgrminclude should not be run
without adult supervision. Inclusion changes in header files in particular
need to be reviewed with great care. More generally, it'd be good if we
had a clearer notion of module layering to dictate which headers can sanely
include which others ... but that's a big task for another day.

5f7b58fad8 Generalize concept of temporary relations to "relation persistence".
This commit replaces pg_class.relistemp with pg_class.relpersistence;
and also modifies the RangeVar node type to carry relpersistence rather
than istemp. It also removes removes rd_istemp from RelationData and
instead performs the correct computation based on relpersistence.

For clarity, we add three new macros: RelationNeedsWAL(),
RelationUsesLocalBuffers(), and RelationUsesTempNamespace(), so that we
can clarify the purpose of each check that previous depended on
rd_istemp.

This is intended as infrastructure for the upcoming unlogged tables
patch, as well as for future possible work on global temporary tables.

814c8a03ba Further fixes for per-tablespace options patch.
Add missing varlena header to TableSpaceOpts structure. And, per
Tom Lane, instead of calling tablespace_reloptions in CacheMemoryContext,
call it in the caller's memory context and copy the value over
afterwards, to reduce the chances of a session-lifetime memory leak.

d86d51a958 Support ALTER TABLESPACE name SET/RESET ( tablespace_options ).
This patch only supports seq_page_cost and random_page_cost as parameters,
but it provides the infrastructure to scalably support many more.
In particular, we may want to add support for effective_io_concurrency,
but I'm leaving that as future work for now.

24ee8af573 Rework temp_tablespaces patch so that temp tablespaces are assigned separately
for each temp file, rather than once per sort or hashjoin; this allows
spreading the data of a large sort or join across multiple tablespaces.
(I remain dubious that this will make any difference in practice, but certain
people insisted.) Arrange to cache the results of parsing the GUC variable
instead of recomputing from scratch on every demand, and push usage of the
cache down to the bottommost fd.c level.

acfce502ba Create a GUC parameter temp_tablespaces that allows selection of the
tablespace(s) in which to store temp tables and temporary files. This is a
list to allow spreading the load across multiple tablespaces (a random list
element is chosen each time a temp object is to be created). Temp files are
not stored in per-database pgsql_tmp/ directories anymore, but per-tablespace
directories.

7762619e95 Replace pg_shadow and pg_group by new role-capable catalogs pg_authid

instance). But I'm going to commit it now anyway so that Alvaro can
make some progress on shared dependencies. The catalog changes should
be pretty much done.

98e8b48053 Create 'default_tablespace' GUC variable that supplies a TABLESPACE
clause implicitly whenever one is not given explicitly. Remove concept
of a schema having an associated tablespace, and simplify the rules for
selecting a default tablespace for a table or index. It's now just
(a) explicit TABLESPACE clause; (b) default_tablespace if that's not an
empty string; (c) database's default. This will allow pg_dump to use
SET commands instead of tablespace clauses to determine object locations
(but I didn't actually make it do so). All per recent discussions.

830c168e5c Give a more user-friendly error message in situation where CREATE DATABASE
specifies a new default tablespace and the template database already has
some tables in that tablespace. There isn't any way to solve this fully
without modifying the clone database's pg_class contents, so for now the
best we can do is issue a better error message.

50742aed68 Add WAL logging for CREATE/DROP DATABASE and CREATE/DROP TABLESPACE.
Fix TablespaceCreateDbspace() to be able to create a dummy directory
in place of a dropped tablespace's symlink. This eliminates the open
problem of a PANIC during WAL replay when a replayed action attempts
to touch a file in a since-deleted tablespace. It also makes for a
significant improvement in the usability of PITR replay.

8801110b20 Move TablespaceCreateDbspace() call into smgrcreate(), which is where it
probably should have been to begin with; this is to cover cases like
needing to recreate the per-db directory during WAL replay.
Also, fix heap_create to force pg_class.reltablespace to be zero instead
of the database's default tablespace; this makes the world safe for
CREATE DATABASE to handle all tables in the default tablespace alike,
as per previous discussion. And force pg_class.reltablespace to zero
when creating a relation without physical storage (eg, a view); this
avoids possibly having dangling references in this column after a
subsequent DROP TABLESPACE.

2467394ee1 Tablespaces. Alternate database locations are dead, long live tablespaces.
There are various things left to do: contrib dbsize and oid2name modules
need work, and so does the documentation. Also someone should think about

dead, it just doesn't know it yet.
