140fdfcdf1 Don't evaluate the FOR PORTION OF target under EXPLAIN
ExecInitModifyTable() evaluated ForPortionOfExpr.targetRange
unconditionally at executor start-up, with no EXEC_FLAG_EXPLAIN_ONLY
guard. This caused three problems:

- EXPLAIN (GENERIC_PLAN) failed with "no value found for parameter 1".

- Plain EXPLAIN with FOR PORTION OF (null) raised "FOR PORTION OF
  target must not be null".

- Plain EXPLAIN ran user functions appearing in the target a second
time, beyond the one evaluation the planner already does for
  selectivity estimation.

Now we skip the evaluation and the accompanying null check in
explain-only mode.

c16a1b4f2c Fix error code for null FOR PORTION OF target
When the target expression of FOR PORTION OF (...) evaluated to NULL,
ExecInitModifyTable raised an error without an errcode, so clients got
the internal error code XX000 for a user-reachable condition.
Oversight in commit 8e72d914c5.

To fix, report ERRCODE_NULL_VALUE_NOT_ALLOWED, and reword the message
to "FOR PORTION OF target must not be null", matching similar executor
messages such as "frame starting offset must not be null".

51c43a5dbd Use safer allocation routines in more places of the tree
This is part of a more global effort to modernize the code tree with
safer allocation functions, which offer more protection in terms of:
- stronger type safety guarantees
- size overflow checks, particulary for arrays.

This set of updates includes allocation changes based on
palloc_object(), palloc_array() and repalloc_array().  This work is
similar to 1b105f9472, expanding more the new APIs in the tree in an
incremental fashion.

62d1a5f8be Avoid RETURNING side effects for FOR PORTION OF leftovers.
UPDATE/DELETE ... FOR PORTION OF inserts leftover rows for the
untouched parts of the original row. These hidden inserts should not
affect the command tag or ROW_COUNT, so they call ExecInsert() with
canSetTag set to false.

However, ExecInsert() still processed the RETURNING list whenever the
target ResultRelInfo had ri_projectReturning set. That caused
RETURNING expressions to be evaluated for leftover rows even though
their results were discarded. As a result, expressions with side
effects and information-leaking functions could be executed on the
leftover rows, in addition to the visibly updated or deleted row.

Fix by having ExecInsert() skip RETURNING processing when it is
handling an internal FOR PORTION OF leftover insert. Use both the
presence of a FOR PORTION OF clause and mtstate->operation ==
CMD_INSERT for this check, so that the auxiliary INSERT of a
cross-partition UPDATE with a FOR PORTION OF clause still processes
RETURNING normally.

Back-patch to v19, where support for FOR PORTION OF was added.

7090c696cc Deparse FOR PORTION OF using the range column's current name.
Commit 8e72d914c recorded the range column's name in ForPortionOfExpr
and used that for deparsing FOR PORTION OF. This gives the wrong
answer if the ForPortionOfExpr is saved in a rule or SQL function and
then the column gets renamed. Drop the ForPortionOfExpr.range_name
field; instead fetch the current column name from the catalogs when
needed.

Also drop ForPortionOfState.fp_rangeName, which wasn't being used
anywhere.

8e0c252753 Fix RETURNING OLD with BEFORE UPDATE trigger and concurrent update.
When executing an UPDATE with a RETURNING clause on a table with a
BEFORE UPDATE row trigger, the computation of the OLD values in the
RETURNING list was incorrect if the target tuple was concurrently
updated by another session, at isolation level READ COMMITTED.

The problem was that the trigger code would lock the target tuple,
waiting for the other session to commit, and then fetch the updated
target tuple, but ExecUpdate() would not realise that the target tuple
had changed, and use the outdated target tuple for computing OLD
values. Fix by having ExecUpdate() check the TM_FailureData from
trigger execution and re-fetch the target tuple if necessary.

Re-fetching the target tuple like this is a little inefficient, but
probably negligible compared to the trigger execution and update. A
better long-term fix might be to move the EPQ code out of trigger.c,
and let ExecUpdate() handle it, like ExecMergeMatched() does, but that
would likely mean changing the trigger API, which seems a bit much for
back-patching.

Backpatch to v18, where support for RETURNING OLD/NEW was added.

a40fdf6588 Reject child partition FDWs in FOR PORTION OF
We should defer validating FDW usage until after analysis. We have to
guard against not just the topmost table, but also individual child
partitions. Added the check to CheckValidResultRel, because it is
called after looking up child partitions (accounting for pruning), but
before the FDW can run a DirectModify update, which would bypass
per-tuple executor work.

b43f8aa4cb Re-index ModifyTable FDW arrays when pruning result relations
ExecInitModifyTable() rebuilds the per-result-relation lists after
dropping result relations removed by initial runtime pruning. The
re-indexing was done for withCheckOptionLists, returningLists,
updateColnosLists, mergeActionLists and mergeJoinConditions, but
fdwPrivLists and fdwDirectModifyPlans were missed. As a result, a
kept foreign result relation could be handed the wrong fdw_private,
or ri_usesFdwDirectModify could be set from the wrong plan index,
leading to wrong behavior or a crash in BeginForeignModify() and in
the direct-modify path.

show_modifytable_info() had the same problem: it indexed the
plan-ordered node->fdwPrivLists with the post-pruning executor
position, so once initial pruning removed a result relation it
could read a different relation's fdw_private (often a NIL entry),
producing wrong EXPLAIN output or a crash.

Fix by re-indexing fdwPrivLists and fdwDirectModifyPlans alongside
the other lists, saving the re-indexed private lists in
ModifyTableState.mt_fdwPrivLists and reading from there in both
nodeModifyTable.c and explain.c.

7d13b03a2e Fix FOR PORTION OF for inheritance children
ExecForPortionOfLeftovers() assumed that any result relation with
ri_RootResultRelInfo should reinsert temporal leftovers through the
root relation. That is correct for partitioned tables, where tuple
routing is needed, but it is wrong for plain inheritance.

When UPDATE/DELETE FOR PORTION OF is run on an inheritance parent and
a child row is split, the leftover rows must be inserted back into the
child relation. Reinserting through the parent can lose child-only
columns and place the leftover rows in the wrong relation.

Fix this by distinguishing partitioned-table routing from plain
inheritance. For partitioned tables, keep using the root leftover
slot and insert through the root relation. For plain inheritance
children, use a leftover slot matching the child relation and insert
directly into the child. Also keep translating the application-time
column attno for child relations, so multiple-inheritance cases with
different attribute numbers are handled correctly.

Added an ExecInitForPortionOf function to set up the ForPortionOfState
for each child table, which keeps most of these decisions localized
instead of spread out through ExecForPortionOfLeftovers. Incidentally
clarified a comment about the rangetype stored in ForPortionOfState.

Add regression tests for UPDATE and DELETE FOR PORTION OF on
inheritance children, including a multiple-inheritance case where the
range column has a different attnum in the parent and child.

207cb2abcb Make ExecForPortionOfLeftovers() obey SRF protocol.
Before each call to the SRF, initialize isnull and isDone, as per the
comments for struct ReturnSetInfo. This fixes a Coverity warning
about rsi.isDone not being initialized. The built-in

but a user-supplied function might not be as accommodating.

We also add statistics tracking around the function call, which
will be expected once user-defined withoutPortionProcs functions
are supported, and a cross-check on rsi.returnMode just for
paranoia's sake.

8e72d914c5 Add UPDATE/DELETE FOR PORTION OF
This is an extension of the UPDATE and DELETE commands to do a
"temporal update/delete" based on a range or multirange column. The
user can say UPDATE t FOR PORTION OF valid_at FROM '2001-01-01' TO
'2002-01-01' SET ... (or likewise with DELETE) where valid_at is a
range or multirange column.

The command is automatically limited to rows overlapping the targeted
portion, and only history within those bounds is changed. If a row
represents history partly inside and partly outside the bounds, then
the command truncates the row's application time to fit within the
targeted portion, then it inserts one or more "temporal leftovers":
new rows containing all the original values, except with the
application-time column changed to only represent the untouched part
of history.

To compute the temporal leftovers that are required, we use the *_minus_multi
set-returning functions defined in 5eed8ce50c.

- Added bison support for FOR PORTION OF syntax. The bounds must be
constant, so we forbid column references, subqueries, etc. We do
  accept functions like NOW().
- Added logic to executor to insert new rows for the "temporal
leftover" part of a record touched by a FOR PORTION OF query.
- Documented FOR PORTION OF.
- Added tests.

f9a468c664 Fix bogus ctid requirement for dummy-root partitioned targets
ExecInitModifyTable() unconditionally required a ctid junk column even
when the target was a partitioned table. This led to spurious "could
not find junk ctid column" errors when all children were excluded and
only the dummy root result relation remained.

A partitioned table only appears in the result relations list when all
leaf partitions have been pruned, leaving the dummy root as the sole
entry. Assert this invariant (nrels == 1) and skip the ctid requirement.
Also adjust ExecModifyTable() to tolerate invalid ri_RowIdAttNo for
partitioned tables, which is safe since no rows will be processed in
this case.

4b760a181a Remove faulty Assert in partitioned INSERT...ON CONFLICT DO UPDATE.
Commit f16241bef mistakenly supposed that INSERT...ON CONFLICT DO
UPDATE rejects partitioned target tables. (This may have been
accurate when the patch was written, but it was already obsolete
when committed.) Hence, there's an assertion that we can't see
ItemPointerIndicatesMovedPartitions() in that path, but the assertion
is triggerable.

Some other places throw error if they see a moved-across-partitions
tuple, but there seems no need for that here, because if we just retry
then we get the same behavior as in the update-within-partition case,
as demonstrated by the new isolation test. So fix by deleting the
faulty Assert. (The fact that this is the fix doubtless explains
why we've heard no field complaints: the behavior of a non-assert
build is fine.)

The TM_Deleted case contains a cargo-culted copy of the same Assert,
which I also deleted to avoid confusion, although I believe that one
is actually not triggerable.

Per our code coverage report, neither the TM_Updated nor the
TM_Deleted case were reached at all by existing tests, so this
patch adds tests for both.

889676a0d5 Fix rowmark handling for non-relation RTEs during executor init
Commit cbc127917e introduced tracking of unpruned relids to skip
processing of pruned partitions. PlannedStmt.unprunableRelids is
computed as the difference between PlannerGlobal.allRelids and
prunableRelids, but allRelids only contains RTE_RELATION entries.
This means non-relation RTEs (VALUES, subqueries, CTEs, etc.) are
never included in unprunableRelids, and consequently not in
es_unpruned_relids at runtime.

As a result, rowmarks attached to non-relation RTEs were incorrectly
skipped during executor initialization. This affects any DML statement
that has rowmarks on such RTEs, including MERGE with a VALUES or
subquery source, and UPDATE/DELETE with joins against subqueries or
CTEs. When a concurrent update triggers an EPQ recheck, the missing
rowmark leads to incorrect results.

Fix by restricting the es_unpruned_relids membership check to
RTE_RELATION entries only, since partition pruning only applies to
actual relations. Rowmarks for other RTE kinds are now always
processed.

bc32a12e0d Fix infer_arbiter_index during concurrent index operations
Previously, we would only consider indexes marked indisvalid as usable
for INSERT ON CONFLICT. But that's problematic during CREATE INDEX
CONCURRENTLY and REINDEX CONCURRENTLY, because concurrent transactions
would end up with inconsistents lists of inferred indexes, leading to
deadlocks and spurious errors about unique key violations (because two
transactions are operating on different indexes for the speculative
insertion tokens). Change this function to return indexes even if
invalid. This fixes the spurious errors and deadlocks.

Because such indexes might not be complete, we still need uniqueness to
be verified in a different way. We do that by requiring that at least
one index marked valid is part of the set of indexes returned. It is
that index that is going to help ensure that the inserted tuple is
indeed unique.

This does not fix similar problems occurring with partitioned tables or
with named constraints. These problems will be fixed in follow-up
commits.

We have no user report of this problem, even though it exists in all
branches. Because of that and given that the fix is somewhat tricky, I
decided not to backpatch for now.

1b92fe7bb9 Fix Assert failure in EXPLAIN ANALYZE MERGE with a concurrent update.
When instrumenting a MERGE command containing both WHEN NOT MATCHED BY
SOURCE and WHEN NOT MATCHED BY TARGET actions using EXPLAIN ANALYZE, a
concurrent update of the target relation could lead to an Assert
failure in show_modifytable_info(). In a non-assert build, this would
lead to an incorrect value for "skipped" tuples in the EXPLAIN output,
rather than a crash.

This could happen if the concurrent update caused a matched row to no
longer match, in which case ExecMerge() treats the single originally
matched row as a pair of not matched rows, and potentially executes 2
not-matched actions for the single source row. This could then lead to
a state where the number of rows processed by the ModifyTable node
exceeds the number of rows produced by its source node, causing
"skipped_path" in show_modifytable_info() to be negative, triggering
the Assert.

Fix this in ExecMergeMatched() by incrementing the instrumentation
tuple count on the source node whenever a concurrent update of this
kind is detected, if both kinds of merge actions exist, so that the
number of source rows matches the number of actions potentially
executed, and the "skipped" tuple count is correct.

Back-patch to v17, where support for WHEN NOT MATCHED BY SOURCE
actions was introduced.

6ede13d1b5 Fix concurrent update issue with MERGE.
When executing a MERGE UPDATE action, if there is more than one
concurrent update of the target row, the lock-and-retry code would
sometimes incorrectly identify the latest version of the target tuple,
leading to incorrect results.

This was caused by using the ctid field from the TM_FailureData
returned by table_tuple_lock() in a case where the result was TM_Ok,
which is unsafe because the TM_FailureData struct is not guaranteed to
be fully populated in that case. Instead, it should use the tupleid
passed to (and updated by) table_tuple_lock().

To reduce the chances of similar errors in the future, improve the
commentary for table_tuple_lock() and TM_FailureData to make it
clearer that table_tuple_lock() updates the tid passed to it, and most
fields of TM_FailureData should not be relied on in non-failure cases.
An exception to this is the "traversed" field, which is set in both
success and failure cases.

5022ff250e Fix concurrent update trigger issues with MERGE in a CTE.
If a MERGE inside a CTE attempts an UPDATE or DELETE on a table with
BEFORE ROW triggers, and a concurrent UPDATE or DELETE happens, the
merge code would fail (crashing in the case of an UPDATE action, and
potentially executing the wrong action for a DELETE action).

This is the same issue that 9321c79c86 attempted to fix, except now
for a MERGE inside a CTE. As noted in 9321c79c86, what needs to happen
is for the trigger code to exit early, returning the TM_Result and
TM_FailureData information to the merge code, if a concurrent
modification is detected, rather than attempting to do an EPQ
recheck. The merge code will then do its own rechecking, and rescan
the action list, potentially executing a different action in light of
the concurrent update. In particular, the trigger code must never call
ExecGetUpdateNewTuple() for MERGE, since that is bound to fail because
MERGE has its own per-action projection information.

Commit 9321c79c86 did this using estate->es_plannedstmt->commandType
in the trigger code to detect that a MERGE was being executed, which
is fine for a plain MERGE command, but does not work for a MERGE
inside a CTE. Fix by passing that information to the trigger code as
an additional parameter passed to ExecBRUpdateTriggers() and
ExecBRDeleteTriggers().

Back-patch as far as v17 only, since MERGE cannot appear inside a CTE
prior to that. Additionally, take care to preserve the trigger ABI in
v17 (though not in v18, which is still in beta).

b006bcd531 Fix MERGE into a plain inheritance parent table.
When a MERGE's target table is the parent of an inheritance tree, any
INSERT actions insert into the parent table using ModifyTableState's

initialized:

1. ExecInitMerge() incorrectly uses a different ResultRelInfo entry
from ModifyTableState's resultRelInfo array to build the insert
projection, which may not be compatible with rootResultRelInfo.

2. ExecInitModifyTable() does not fully initialize rootResultRelInfo.
Specifically, ri_WithCheckOptions, ri_WithCheckOptionExprs,
ri_returningList, and ri_projectReturning are not initialized.

This can lead to crashes, or incorrect query results due to failing to
check WCO's or process the RETURNING list for INSERT actions.

Fix both these bugs in ExecInitMerge(), noting that it is only
necessary to fully initialize rootResultRelInfo if the MERGE has
INSERT actions and the target table is a plain inheritance parent.

d376ab570e In ExecInitModifyTable, don't scribble on the source plan.
The code carelessly modified mtstate->ps.plan->targetlist,
which it's not supposed to do. Fortunately, there's not
really any need to do that because the planner already
set up a perfectly acceptable targetlist for the plan node.
We just need to remove the erroneous assignments and update some
relevant comments.

As it happens, the erroneous assignments caused the targetlist to
point to a different part of the source plan tree, so that there
isn't really a risk of the pointer becoming dangling after executor
termination. The only visible effect of this change we can find is
that EXPLAIN will show upper references to the ModifyTable's output
expressions using different variables. Formerly it showed Vars from
the first target relation that survived executor-startup pruning.
Now it always shows such references using the first relation appearing
in the planner output, independently of what happens during executor
pruning. On the whole that seems like a good thing.

Also make a small tweak in ExplainPreScanNode to ensure that the first
relation will receive a refname assignment in set_rtable_names, even
if it got pruned at startup. Previously the Vars might be shown
without any table qualification, which is confusing in a multi-table
query.

I considered back-patching this, but since the bug doesn't seem to
have any really terrible consequences in existing branches, it
seems better to not change their EXPLAIN output. It's not too late
for v18 though, especially since v18 already made other changes in
the EXPLAIN output for these cases.

7c87284940 Fix failure for generated column with a not-null domain constraint.
If a GENERATED column is declared to have a domain data type where
the domain's constraints disallow null values, INSERT commands failed
because we built a targetlist that included coercing a null constant
to the domain's type. The failure occurred even when the generated
value would have been perfectly OK. This is adjacent to the issues
fixed in 0da39aa76, but we didn't notice for lack of testing a domain
with such a constraint.

We aren't going to use the result of the targetlist entry for the
generated column --- ExecComputeStoredGenerated will overwrite it.
So it's not really necessary that it have the exact datatype of
the generated column. This patch fixes the problem by changing
the targetlist entry to be a null Const of the domain's base type,
which should be sufficiently legal. (We do have to tweak
ExecCheckPlanOutput to accept the situation, though.)

This has been broken since we implemented generated columns.
However, this patch only applies easily as far back as v14, partly
because I (tgl) only carried 0da39aa76 back that far, but mostly
because v14 significantly refactored the handling of INSERT/UPDATE
targetlists. Given the lack of field complaints and the short
remaining support lifetime of v13, I judge the cost-benefit ratio
not good for devising a version that would work in v13.

28317de723 Ensure first ModifyTable rel initialized if all are pruned
Commit cbc127917e introduced tracking of unpruned relids to avoid
processing pruned relations, and changed ExecInitModifyTable() to
initialize only unpruned result relations. As a result, MERGE
statements that prune all target partitions can now lead to crashes
or incorrect behavior during execution.

The crash occurs because some executor code paths rely on
ModifyTableState.resultRelInfo[0] being present and initialized,
even when no result relations remain after pruning. For example,
ExecMerge() and ExecMergeNotMatched() use the first resultRelInfo
to determine the appropriate action. Similarly,
ExecInitPartitionInfo() assumes that at least one result relation
exists.

To preserve these assumptions, ExecInitModifyTable() now includes the
first result relation in the initialized result relation list if all
result relations for that ModifyTable were pruned. To enable that,
ExecDoInitialPruning() ensures the first relation is locked if it was
pruned and locking is necessary.

To support this exception to the pruning logic, PlannedStmt now
includes a list of RT indexes identifying the first result relation
of each ModifyTable node in the plan. This allows
ExecDoInitialPruning() to check whether each such relation was
pruned and, if so, lock it if necessary.

83ea6c5402 Virtual generated columns
This adds a new variant of generated columns that are computed on read
(like a view, unlike the existing stored generated columns, which are
computed on write, like a materialized view).

The syntax for the column definition is

... GENERATED ALWAYS AS (...) VIRTUAL

and VIRTUAL is also optional. VIRTUAL is the default rather than
STORED to match various other SQL products. (The SQL standard makes
no specification about this, but it also doesn't know about VIRTUAL or
STORED.) (Also, virtual views are the default, rather than
materialized views.)

Virtual generated columns are stored in tuples as null values. (A
very early version of this patch had the ambition to not store them at
all. But so much stuff breaks or gets confused if you have tuples
where a column in the middle is completely missing. This is a
compromise, and it still saves space over being forced to use stored
generated columns. If we ever find a way to improve this, a bit of
pg_upgrade cleverness could allow for upgrades to a newer scheme.)

The capabilities and restrictions of virtual generated columns are
mostly the same as for stored generated columns. In some cases, this
patch keeps virtual generated columns more restricted than they might
technically need to be, to keep the two kinds consistent. Some of
that could maybe be relaxed later after separate careful
considerations.

Some functionality that is currently not supported, but could possibly
be added as incremental features, some easier than others:

- index on or using a virtual column
- hence also no unique constraints on virtual columns
- extended statistics on virtual columns
- foreign-key constraints on virtual columns
- not-null constraints on virtual columns (check constraints are supported)
- ALTER TABLE / DROP EXPRESSION
- virtual column cannot have domain type
- virtual columns are not supported in logical replication

The tests in generated_virtual.sql have been copied over from
generated_stored.sql with the keyword replaced. This way we can make
sure the behavior is mostly aligned, and the differences can be
visible. Some tests for currently not supported features are
currently commented out.

cbc127917e Track unpruned relids to avoid processing pruned relations
This commit introduces changes to track unpruned relations explicitly,
making it possible for top-level plan nodes, such as ModifyTable and
LockRows, to avoid processing partitions pruned during initial
pruning. Scan-level nodes, such as Append and MergeAppend, already
avoid the unnecessary processing by accessing partition pruning
results directly via part_prune_index. In contrast, top-level nodes
cannot access pruning results directly and need to determine which
partitions remain unpruned.

To address this, this commit introduces a new bitmapset field,
es_unpruned_relids, which the executor uses to track the set of
unpruned relations. This field is referenced during plan
initialization to skip initializing certain nodes for pruned
partitions. It is initialized with PlannedStmt.unprunableRelids,
a new field that the planner populates with RT indexes of relations
that cannot be pruned during runtime pruning. These include relations
not subject to partition pruning and those required for execution
regardless of pruning.

PlannedStmt.unprunableRelids is computed during set_plan_refs() by
removing the RT indexes of runtime-prunable relations, identified
from PartitionPruneInfos, from the full set of relation RT indexes.
ExecDoInitialPruning() then updates es_unpruned_relids by adding
partitions that survive initial pruning.

To support this, PartitionedRelPruneInfo and PartitionedRelPruningData
now include a leafpart_rti_map[] array that maps partition indexes to
their corresponding RT indexes. The former is used in set_plan_refs()
when constructing unprunableRelids, while the latter is used in
ExecDoInitialPruning() to convert partition indexes returned by
get_matching_partitions() into RT indexes, which are then added to
es_unpruned_relids.

These changes make it possible for ModifyTable and LockRows nodes to
process only relations that remain unpruned after initial pruning.
ExecInitModifyTable() trims lists, such as resultRelations,
withCheckOptionLists, returningLists, and updateColnosLists, to
consider only unpruned partitions. It also creates ResultRelInfo
structs only for these partitions. Similarly, child RowMarks for
pruned relations are skipped.

By avoiding unnecessary initialization of structures for pruned
partitions, these changes improve the performance of updates and
deletes on partitioned tables during initial runtime pruning.

Due to ExecInitModifyTable() changes as described above, EXPLAIN on a
plan for UPDATE and DELETE that uses runtime initial pruning no longer
lists partitions pruned during initial pruning.

80feb727c8 Add OLD/NEW support to RETURNING in DML queries.
This allows the RETURNING list of INSERT/UPDATE/DELETE/MERGE queries
to explicitly return old and new values by using the special aliases
"old" and "new", which are automatically added to the query (if not
already defined) while parsing its RETURNING list, allowing things
like:

  RETURNING old.colname, new.colname, ...

  RETURNING old.*, new.*

Additionally, a new syntax is supported, allowing the names "old" and
"new" to be changed to user-supplied alias names, e.g.:

  RETURNING WITH (OLD AS o, NEW AS n) o.colname, n.colname, ...

This is useful when the names "old" and "new" are already defined,
such as inside trigger functions, allowing backwards compatibility to
be maintained -- the interpretation of any existing queries that
happen to already refer to relations called "old" or "new", or use
those as aliases for other relations, is not changed.

For an INSERT, old values will generally be NULL, and for a DELETE,
new values will generally be NULL, but that may change for an INSERT
with an ON CONFLICT ... DO UPDATE clause, or if a query rewrite rule
changes the command type. Therefore, we put no restrictions on the use
of old and new in any DML queries.

5983a4cffc Introduce CompactAttribute array in TupleDesc, take 2
The new compact_attrs array stores a few select fields from
FormData_pg_attribute in a more compact way, using only 16 bytes per
column instead of the 104 bytes that FormData_pg_attribute uses. Using
CompactAttribute allows performance-critical operations such as tuple
deformation to be performed without looking at the FormData_pg_attribute
element in TupleDesc which means fewer cacheline accesses.

For some workloads, tuple deformation can be the most CPU intensive part
of processing the query. Some testing with 16 columns on a table
where the first column is variable length showed around a 10% increase in
transactions per second for an OLAP type query performing aggregation on
the 16th column. However, in certain cases, the increases were much
higher, up to ~25% on one AMD Zen4 machine.

This also makes pg_attribute.attcacheoff redundant. A follow-on commit
will remove it, thus shrinking the FormData_pg_attribute struct by 4
bytes.

Most comments concern RELKIND_VIEW. One addresses the ExecUpdate()
"tupleid" parameter. A later commit will rely on these facts, but they
hold already. Back-patch to v12 (all supported versions), the plan for
that commit.
