Protocol_local fixed so it can be used now.
Some Protocol:: methods made virtual so they can adapt.
as well as net_ok and net_send_error functions.
execute_sql_string function is exported to the plugins.
To be changed with the mysql_use_result.
An alternative implementation (replacing the one based on repertoire).
This implementation makes Field send itself to Protocol_text using
data type specific Protocol methods rather than field->val_str()
followed by protocol_text->store_str().
As now Field sends itself in the same way to all protocol types
(e.g. Protocol_binary, Protocol_text, Protocol_local),
the method Field::send_binary() was renamed just to Field::send().
Note, this change introduces symmetry between Field and Item,
because Items also send themself using a single method Item::send(),
which is used for *all* protocol types.
Performance improvement is achieved by the fact that Protocol_text
implements these data type specific methods using store_numeric_string_aux()
rather than store_string_aux(). The conversion now happens only when
character_set_results is not ASCII compatible character sets
(e.g. UCS2, UTF16, UTF32).
In the old code (before any MDEV-23162 work, e.g. as of 10.5.4),
Protocol_text::store(Field*) used val_str() for all data types.
So the execution went through the character set conversion routines
even for numeric and temporal data types.
Benchmarking summary (see details in MDEV-23478):
The new approach stably demonstrates additional improvement comparing
to the previous implementation (the smaller time - the better):

Avoid character set conversion for numeric data in this scenario:
SET NAMES utf8;
CREATE OR REPLACE TABLE t1 (a INT);
INSERT INTO t1 VALUES (1);
SELECT a FROM t1;
- Renaming this virtual method store() to store_str():
store(const char *str, size_t length, CHARSET_INFO *src_cs, CHARSET_INFO *dst_cs)
We'll be adding more variants of store*() soon. This change will help to avoid
ambiguities during overloading.
- Adding a helper method store_ident().
- Renaming store_str(const LEX_CSTRING &s...) to store_lex_cstring(),
to avoid ambiguties during overloading.
- Adding a helper method store() for backward compatibility, to avoid a lot of
changes in the code now. But eventually we should replace store() to
non-ambiguius methods store_str() or store_ident().
- Adding a helper method Protocol::needs_conversion() and reusing it
in two places.
When a prepared statement parameter '?' is used in a CTE that is used
multiple times, the following happens:
- The CTE definition is re-parsed multiple times.
- There are multiple Item_param objects referring to the same "?" in
the original query.
- Prepared_statement::param has a pointer to the first of them, the
others are "clones".
- When prepared statement parameter gets the value, it should be passed
over to clones with param->sync_clones() call.
This call is made in insert_params(), etc. It was not made in
insert_params_with_log().
This would cause Item_param to not have any value which would confuse
the query optimizer.
Added the missing call.
All changes (except one) is of type
thd->transaction. -> thd->transaction->
thd->transaction points by default to 'thd->default_transaction'
This allows us to 'easily' have multiple active transactions for a
THD object, like when reading data from the mysql.proc table
(Variant #2 of the patch, which keeps the sp_head object inside the
MEM_ROOT that sp_head object owns)
(10.3 requires extra work due to sp_package, will commit a separate
patch for it)
sp_head::operator new() and operator delete() were dereferencing sp_head*
pointers to memory that didn't hold a valid sp_head object (it was
not created/already destroyed).
This caused UBSan to crash when looking up type information.
Fixed by providing static sp_head::create() and sp_head::destroy() methods.

- call current_schema::mark_as_changed() directly
- call state_change::mark_as_changed() directly
- replaced SESSION_TRACKER_CHANGED with dummy tracker
- replaced Session_tracker::mark_as_changed() with
State_tracker::mark_as_changed()
- hide and devirtualize original State_tracker::mark_as_changed(),
rename it to set_changed()
- all implementations of mark_as_changed() now check is_enabled() for
consistency
- no argument casts anymore

Maintainer mode makes all warnings errors. This patch fix warnings. Mostly about
deprecated `register` keyword.
Too much warnings came from Mroonga and I gave up on it.
The MDEV-17262 commit 26432e49d3
was skipped. In Galera 4, the implementation would seem to require
changes to the streaming replication.
In the tests archive.rnd_pos main.profiling, disable_ps_protocol
for SHOW STATUS and SHOW PROFILE commands until MDEV-18974
has been fixed.
Includes:
MDEV-17302 Add support for ALTER USER command in prepared statement
and
MDEV-17673 main.cte_recursive fails in bb-10.4-ps branch in --ps
Set correct SELECT_LEX linkage for recursive CTEs.
Do not delegate this job to TABLE_LIST::set_as_with_table,
because it is only run on prepare, while With_element::move_anchors_ahead
is run both on prepare and execute (fix by Igor)
Make mysqltest to use --ps-protocol more
use prepared statements for everything that server supports
with the exception of CALL (for now).
Fix discovered test failures and bugs.
tests:
* PROCESSLIST shows Execute state, not Query
* SHOW STATUS increments status variables more than in text protocol
* multi-statements should be avoided (see tests with a wrong delimiter)
* performance_schema events have different names in --ps-protocol
* --enable_prepare_warnings
mysqltest.cc:
* make sure run_query_stmt() doesn't crash if there's
no active connection (in wait_until_connected_again.inc)
* prepare all statements that server supports
protocol.h
* Protocol_discard::send_result_set_metadata() should not send
anything to the client.
sql_acl.cc:
* extract the functionality of getting the user for SHOW GRANTS
from check_show_access(), so that mysql_test_show_grants() could
generate the correct column names in the prepare step
sql_class.cc:
* result->prepare() can fail, don't ignore its return value
* use correct number of decimals for EXPLAIN columns
sql_parse.cc:
* discard profiling for SHOW PROFILE. In text protocol it's done in
prepare_schema_table(), but in --ps it is called on prepare only,
so nothing was discarding profiling during execute.
* move the permission checking code for SHOW CREATE VIEW to
mysqld_show_create_get_fields(), so that it would be called during
prepare step too.
* only set sel_result when it was created here and needs to be
destroyed in the same block. Avoid destroying lex->result.
* use the correct number of tables in check_show_access(). Saying
"as many as possible" doesn't work when first_not_own_table isn't
set yet.
sql_prepare.cc:
* use correct user name for SHOW GRANTS columns
* don't ignore verbose flag for SHOW SLAVE STATUS
* support preparing REVOKE ALL and ROLLBACK TO SAVEPOINT
* don't ignore errors from thd->prepare_explain_fields()
* use select_send result for sending ANALYZE and EXPLAIN, but don't
overwrite lex->result, because it might be needed to issue execute-time
errors (select_dumpvar - too many rows)
sql_show.cc:
* check grants for SHOW CREATE VIEW here, not in mysql_execute_command
sql_view.cc:
* use the correct function to check privileges. Old code was doing
check_access() for thd->security_ctx, which is invoker's sctx,
not definer's sctx. Hide various view related errors from the invoker.
sql_yacc.yy:
* initialize lex->select_lex for LOAD, otherwise it'll contain garbage
data that happen to fail tests with views in --ps (but not otherwise).
