56cf9d2db4 BUG#18080920: CRASH; MY_REALLOC_STR DEREFERENCES NEGATIVE VALUE
INTO CLIENT_ERRORS ARRAY

Analysis:
--------
The client may crash while executing a statement due to
the missing mapping of the server error to it's equivalent
client error.

When trying to reallocate memory for the packet buffer, if
the system is out of memory or the packet buffer is large,
the server errors 'ER_OUT_OF_RESOURCES' or 'ER_PACKET_TOO_LARGE'
is returned respectively. The client error number calculated is
negative and when trying to dereference the array of client
error messages with the calculated error number, the client
crashes.

Fix:
----
Map the server error returned to it's equivalent client error
prior to dereferencing the array of client error messages.

Note: Test case is not added since it is difficult to simulate
the error condition.

a40ea266e6 Bug #14553380 MYSQL C API LIBRARY EXITS AT NET_CLEAR AT NET_SERV.CC:223
Problem description: When client loses the connection to the MySQL server or
if the server gets shutdown after mysql_stmt_prepare() then the next
mysql_stmt_prepare() will return an error(as expected) but consecutive call
mysql_stmt_execute(), will crash the client program.
The expected behavior would be, it should through an error.

Analysis: The mysql_stmt_prepare() interns calls the function end_server()
and net->vio and net->buff are freed and set to NULL. Then the next call
mysql_stmt_execute() will interns call net_clear() where we are "net->vio"
with out validating it.

Fix: we are validating the net->vio, before calling net_clear().

428ff7f8a0 Bug #13708485: malformed resultset packet crashes client
Several fixes :

* sql-common/client.c
Added a validity check of the fields metadata packet sent
by the server.
Now libmysql will check if the length of the data sent by
the server matches what's expected by the protocol before
using the data.

* client/mysqltest.cc
Fixed the error handling code in mysqltest to avoid sending
new commands when the reading the result set failed (and
there are unread data in the pipe).

* sql_common.h + libmysql/libmysql.c + sql-common/client.c
unpack_fields() now generates a proper error when it fails.
Added a new argument to this function to support the error
generation.

* sql/protocol.cc
Added a debug trigger to cause the server to send a NULL
insted of the packet expected by the client for testing
purposes.

cd501675d8 Patch for Bug#12374486 - SEVERE MEMORY LEAK IN PREPARED STATEMENTS
THAT CALL STORED PROCEDURES.

The bug was introduced by WL#4435. The problem was that if a stored
procedure generated a few result sets with different set of columns,
a new memory would be allocated after every EXECUTE for every
result set.

The fix is to introduce a new memory root in scope of MYSQL_STMT,
and to store result-set metadata in that memory root.

As of MySQL 5.5, we no longer support non-threaded
builds. This patch removes all references to the
obsolete THREAD and THREAD_SAFE_CLIENT preprocessor
symbols. These were used to distinguish between
threaded and non-threaded builds.

a10ae35328 Bug#34043: Server loops excessively in _checkchunk() when safemalloc is enabled
Essentially, the problem is that safemalloc is excruciatingly
slow as it checks all allocated blocks for overrun at each
memory management primitive, yielding a almost exponential
slowdown for the memory management functions (malloc, realloc,
free). The overrun check basically consists of verifying some
bytes of a block for certain magic keys, which catches some
simple forms of overrun. Another minor problem is violation
of aliasing rules and that its own internal list of blocks
is prone to corruption.

Another issue with safemalloc is rather the maintenance cost
as the tool has a significant impact on the server code.
Given the magnitude of memory debuggers available nowadays,
especially those that are provided with the platform malloc
implementation, maintenance of a in-house and largely obsolete
memory debugger becomes a burden that is not worth the effort
due to its slowness and lack of support for detecting more
common forms of heap corruption.

Since there are third-party tools that can provide the same
functionality at a lower or comparable performance cost, the
solution is to simply remove safemalloc. Third-party tools
can provide the same functionality at a lower or comparable
performance cost.

The removal of safemalloc also allows a simplification of the
malloc wrappers, removing quite a bit of kludge: redefinition
of my_malloc, my_free and the removal of the unused second
argument of my_free. Since free() always check whether the
supplied pointer is null, redudant checks are also removed.

Also, this patch adds unit testing for my_malloc and moves
my_realloc implementation into the same file as the other
memory allocation primitives.

POSIX requires that a signal handler defined with sigaction()
is not reset on delivering a signal unless SA_NODEFER or

the handler on signal delivery on platforms where sigaction()
is used without those flags.

3b3983a408 Bug #53899 Wrong mysql_stmt_errno() after connection loss with
automatic reconnect

A client with automatic reconnect enabled will see the error
message "Lost connection to MySQL server during query" if the
connection is lost between mysql_stmt_prepare() and
mysql_stmt_execute(). The mysql_stmt_errno() number, however,
is 0 -- not the corresponding value 2013.

This patch checks for the case where the prepared statement
has been pruned due to a connection loss (i.e., stmt->mysql
has been set to NULL) during a call to cli_advanced_command(),
and avoids changing the last_errno to the result of the last
reconnect attempt.

93fb8bb235 Bug#53445: Build with -Wall and fix warnings that it generates
Apart strict-aliasing warnings, fix the remaining warnings
generated by GCC 4.4.4 -Wall and -Wextra flags.

One major source of warnings was the in-house function my_bcmp
which (unconventionally) took pointers to unsigned characters
as the byte sequences to be compared. Since my_bcmp and bcmp
are deprecated functions whose only difference with memcmp is
the return value, every use of the function is replaced with
memcmp as the special return value wasn't actually being used
by any caller.

There were also various other warnings, mostly due to type
mismatches, missing return values, missing prototypes, dead
code (unreachable) and ignored return values.

f02525be83 Backport of WL #2934: Make/find library for doing float/double
to string conversions and vice versa"
Initial import of the dtoa.c code and custom wrappers around it
to allow its usage from the server code.

Conversion of FLOAT/DOUBLE values to DECIMAL ones or strings
and vice versa has been significantly reworked. As the new
algoritms are more precise than the older ones, results of such
conversions may not always match those obtained from older
server versions. This in turn may break compatibility for some
applications.

This patch also fixes the following bugs:
- bug #12860 "Difference in zero padding of exponent between
Unix and Windows"
- bug #21497 "DOUBLE truncated to unusable value"
- bug #26788 "mysqld (debug) aborts when inserting specific
numbers into char fields"
- bug #24541 "Data truncated..." on decimal type columns

b9380f0e76 Bug#48983: Bad strmake calls (length one too long)
The problem is a somewhat common misusage of the strmake function.
The strmake(dst, src, len) function writes at most /len/ bytes to
the string pointed to by src, not including the trailing null byte.
Hence, if /len/ is the exact length of the destination buffer, a
one byte buffer overflow can occur if the length of the source
string is equal to or greater than /len/.

983770aa6a Bug #45058 init_available_charsets uses double checked locking
As documented in the bug report, the double checked locking
pattern has inherent issues, and cannot guarantee correct
initialization.

This patch replaces the logic in init_available_charsets()
with the use of pthread_once(3). A wrapper function,
my_pthread_once(), is introduced and is used in lieu of direct
calls to init_available_charsets(). Related defines
MY_PTHREAD_ONCE_* are also introduced.

For the Windows platform, the implementation in lp:sysbench is
ported. For single-thread use, a simple define calls the
function and sets the pthread_once control variable.

Charset initialization is modified to use my_pthread_once().
