Backport of revno: 3673
Bug #47313 assert in check_key_in_view during CALL procedure View definitions are inlined in a stored procedure when the procedure is fist called. This means that if a temporary table is later added with the same name as the view, the stored procedure will still use the view. This happens even if temporary tables normally shadow base tables/views. The reason for the assert was that even if the stored procedure referenced the view, open_table() still tried to open the temporary table. This "half view/half temporary table" state caused the assert. The bug was not present in 5.1 as open_table() is not called for the view there. This code was changed with the introduction of MDL in order to properly lock the view and any objects it refers to. This patch fixes the problem by instructing open_table() to open base tables/views (using OT_BASE_ONLY) when reopening tables/views used by stored procedures. This also means that a prepared statement is no longer invalidated if a temporary table is created with the same name as a view used in the prepared statement. Test case added to sp.test. The test case also demonstrates the effect of sp cache invalidation between CALLs. mysql-test/t/ps_ddl.test: Extended the VIEW->TEMPORARY TABLE transition test to cover not only merged views, but now also materialized views and views containing a reference to an information schema table. Test also updated to reflect the change to prepared statement invalidatation. |

Bug #47335 assert in get_table_share The assert would happen if ALTER VIEW was used to alter a view (existing or non-existing) and a temporary table with the same name already existed. The assert is triggered if the current statement does not have a MDL lock on the view to be altered. This would happen because open_table() would open the temporary table instead and MDL locks are not taken for temporary tables (since they are local to one connection). The patch changes open_type for CREATE/ALTER VIEW to OT_BASE_ONLY. This prevents open_table() from trying to open a temporary table with the same name should one exist. Now the view will be altered if it exists or ER_NO_SUCH_TABLE will be reported if it does not. Test case added to view.test |

Bug#42546 Backup: RESTORE fails, thinking it finds an existing table The problem occured when a MDL locking conflict happened for a non-existent table between a CREATE and a INSERT statement. The code for CREATE interpreted this lock conflict to mean that the table existed, which meant that the statement failed when it should not have. The problem could occur for CREATE TABLE, CREATE TABLE LIKE and ALTER TABLE RENAME. This patch fixes the problem for CREATE TABLE and CREATE TABLE LIKE. It is based on code backported from the mysql-6.1-fk tree written by Dmitry Lenev. CREATE now uses normal open_and_lock_tables() code to acquire exclusive locks. This means that for the test case in the bug description, CREATE will wait until INSERT completes so that it can get the exclusive lock. This resolves the reported bug. The patch also prohibits CREATE TABLE and CREATE TABLE LIKE under LOCK TABLES. Note that this is an incompatible change and must be reflected in the documentation. Affected test cases have been updated. mdl_sync.test contains tests for CREATE TABLE and CREATE TABLE LIKE. Fixing the issue for ALTER TABLE RENAME is beyond the scope of this patch. ALTER TABLE cannot be prohibited from working under LOCK TABLES as this could seriously impact customers and a proper fix would require a significant rewrite. |

This also poses a problem for replication as a DDL operation might be replicated even thought there are active transactions using the object being modified. The solution is to defer the release of metadata locks until a active transaction is either committed or rolled back. This prevents other statements from modifying the table for the entire duration of the transaction. This provides commitment ordering for guaranteeing serializability across multiple transactions. - Incompatible change: If MySQL's metadata locking system encounters a lock conflict, the usual schema is to use the try and back-off technique to avoid deadlocks -- this schema consists in releasing all locks and trying to acquire them all in one go. But in a transactional context this algorithm can't be utilized as its not possible to release locks acquired during the course of the transaction without breaking the transaction commitments. To avoid deadlocks in this case, the ER_LOCK_DEADLOCK will be returned if a lock conflict is encountered during a transaction. Let's consider an example: A transaction has two statements that modify table t1, then table t2, and then commits. The first statement of the transaction will acquire a shared metadata lock on table t1, and it will be kept utill COMMIT to ensure serializability. At the moment when the second statement attempts to acquire a shared metadata lock on t2, a concurrent ALTER or DROP statement might have locked t2 exclusively. The prescription of the current locking protocol is that the acquirer of the shared lock backs off -- gives up all his current locks and retries. The solution is to defer the release of metadata locks to after the transaction has been implicitly committed. No test case is provided as the effort to provide one is too disproportional to the size of the fix. |

Fix for assert failures in kill.test which occured when one tried to kill ALTER TABLE statement on merge table while it was waiting in wait_while_table_is_used() for other connections to close this table. These assert failures stemmed from the fact that cleanup code in this case assumed that temporary table representing new version of table was open with adding to THD::temporary_tables list while code which were opening this temporary table wasn't always fulfilling this. This patch changes code that opens new version of table to always do this linking in. BUG#37148 Most callers of mysql_bin_log.write ignore the return result
This is the non-ndb part of the patch. The return value of mysql_bin_log.write was ignored by most callers, which may lead to inconsistent on master and slave if the transaction was committed while the binlog was not correctly written. If my_error() is call in mysql_bin_log.write, this could also lead to assertion issue if my_ok() or my_error() is called after. This fixed the problem by let the caller to check and handle the return value of mysql_bin_log.write. with gcc 4.3.2 This patch fixes a number of GCC warnings about variables used before initialized. A new macro UNINIT_VAR() is introduced for use in the variable declaration, and LINT_INIT() usage will be gradually deprecated. (A workaround is used for g++, pending a patch for a g++ bug.) GCC warnings for unused results (attribute warn_unused_result) for a number of system calls (present at least in later Ubuntus, where the usual void cast trick doesn't work) are also fixed. client/mysqlmanager-pwgen.c: A fix for warn_unused_result, adding fallback to use of srand()/rand() if /dev/random cannot be used. Also actually adds calls to rand() in the second branch so that it actually creates a random password. |

BUG#39934: Slave stops for engine that only support row-based logging
This is a post-push fix addressing review requests and problems with extra warnings. Problem 1: The sub-statement where an unsafe warning was detected was printed as part of the warning. This was ok for statements that were unsafe due to, e.g., calls to UUID(), but did not make sense for statements that were unsafe because there was more than one autoincrement column (unsafeness in this case comes from the combination of several sub-statements). Fix 1: Instead of printing the sub-statement, print an explanation of why the statement is unsafe. Problem 2: When a recursive construct (i.e., stored proceure, stored function, trigger, view, prepared statement) contained several sub-statements, and at least one of them was unsafe, there would be one unsafeness warning per sub-statement - even for safe sub-statements. Fix 2: Ensure that each type of warning is printed at most once, by remembering throughout the execution of the statement which types of warnings have been printed. mysql-test/extra/rpl_tests/create_recursive_construct.inc: - Clarified comment per review request. - Added checks for the number of warnings in each invocation. mysql-test/extra/rpl_tests/rpl_insert_delayed.test: Per review request, replaced @@session.binlog_format by @@global.binlog_format, since INSERT DELAYED reads the global variable. BUG#37145 Killing a statement doing DDL may log binlog event with error code 1053
When the thread executing a DDL was killed after finished its execution but before writing the binlog event, the error code in the binlog event could be set wrongly to ER_SERVER_SHUTDOWN or ER_QUERY_INTERRUPTED. This patch fixed the problem by ignoring the kill status when constructing the event for DDL statements. This patch also included the following changes in order to provide the test case. 1) modified mysqltest to support variable for connection command 2) modified mysql-test-run.pl, add new variable MYSQL_SLAVE to run mysql client against the slave mysqld. |

After-push commit for bug #33461 to make valgrind happy:
TABLE_LIST doesn't free Strings in its string lists (TABLE_LIST::use_index and TABLE_liST::ignore_index), so calling c_ptr_safe() on that Strings leads to memleaks. OTOH "safe" c_ptr_safe() is not necessary there and we can replace it with c_ptr(). |

an error Even after the fix for bug 28701 visible behaviors of SELECT FROM a view and SELECT FROM a regular table are little bit different: 1. "SELECT FROM regular table USE/FORCE/IGNORE(non existent index)" fails with a "ERROR 1176 (HY000): Key '...' doesn't exist in table '...'" 2. "SELECT FROM view USING/FORCE/IGNORE(any index)" fails with a "ERROR 1221 (HY000): Incorrect usage of USE/IGNORE INDEX and VIEW". OTOH "SHOW INDEX FROM view" always returns empty result set, so from the point of same behaviour view we trying to use/ignore non existent index. Bug #40021: Renaming view fails, archived .frm for view is
missing after downgrade Obsolete arc/ directory and view .frm file backup support has been removed by the patch for bug 17823. However, that bugfix caused a problem with "live downgrades" of the server: if we rename some view 4 times under 5.1.29/5.0.72 and then try to rename it under 5.1.28/5.0.70 on the same database, the server fails with a error: query 'RENAME TABLE ... TO ...' failed: 6: Error on delete of '....frm-0001' (Errcode: 2) Also .frm file of that view may be lost (renamed to .frm~). The server failed because it tried to rename latest 3 backup .frm files renaming the view: the server used an integer value of the "revision" field of .frm file to extract those file names. After the fix for bug 17823 those files were not created/maintained any more, however the "revision" field was incremented as usual. So, the server failed renaming non existent files. This fix solves the problem by removing the support for "revision" .frm file field: 1. New server silently ignores existent "revision" fields in old .frm files and never write it down; 2. Old server assumes, that missing "revision" field in new .frm files means default value of 0. 3. Accordingly to the fix for bug 17823 the new server drops arc/ directory on alter/rename view, so after "live downgrade" old server begins maintenance of the arc/ directory from scratch without conflicts with .frm files. sql/parse_file.cc: Bug #40021: Renaming view fails, archived .frm for view is missing after downgrade 1. static write_parameter(): the old_version parameter and the section for FILE_OPTIONS_REV have been re moved. 2. write_parameter(): the max_versions parameter has been removed; 3. sql_create_definition_file(): removal of dead code; 4. rename_in_schema_file(): revision and num_view_backups parameters and dead code have been removed; 5. Fixed bug #17823: 'arc' directories inside database directories.
Server created "arc" directories inside database directories and maintained there useless copies of .frm files. Creation and renaming procedures of those copies as well as creation of "arc" directories has been discontinued. Removal procedure has been kept untouched to be able to cleanup existent database directories by the DROP DATABASE query. Also view renaming procedure has been updated to remove these directories. sql/parse_file.cc: Fixed bug #17823: 'arc' directories inside database directories. View/table creation and renaming procedures maintained backup copies of .frm files. Those copies are unused yet, so this feature was incomplete and unnecessary. 1. Unwanted code has been hidden by FRM_ARCHIVE ifdefs (the FRM_ARCHIVE macro is not defined). 2. Renaming procedure has been modified to remove obsolete "arc" directories. sql/parse_file.h: Fixed bug #17823: 'arc' directories inside database directories. The "thd" parameter has been added to the rename_in_schema_file() function. sql/sql_db.cc: Fixed bug #17823: 'arc' directories inside database directories. Bug#35577 (CREATE PROCEDURE causes either crash or syntax error depending on
build) The crash was caused by freeing the internal parser stack during the parser execution. This occured only for complex stored procedures, after reallocating the parser stack using my_yyoverflow(), with the following C call stack: - MYSQLparse() - any rule calling sp_head::restore_lex() - lex_end() - x_free(lex->yacc_yyss), xfree(lex->yacc_yyvs) The root cause is the implementation of stored procedures, which breaks the assumption from 4.1 that there is only one LEX structure per parser call. The solution is to separate the LEX structure into: - attributes that represent a statement (the current LEX structure), - attributes that relate to the syntax parser itself (Yacc_state), so that parsing multiple statements in stored programs can create multiple LEX structures while not changing the unique Yacc_state.
