1. Always drop merged_for_insert flag on cleanup (there could be errors which prevent TABLE to be assigned)
2. Make more precise cleanup of select parts which was touched
st_select_lex::handle_derived() and mysql_handle_list_of_derived() had
exactly the same implementations.
- Adding a new method LEX::handle_list_of_derived() instead
- Removing public function mysql_handle_list_of_derived()
- Reusing LEX::handle_list_of_derived() in st_select_lex::handle_derived()
This problem manifested itself when a join query used two or more
materialized CTE such that each of them employed the same recursive CTE.
The bug caused a crash. The crash happened because the cleanup()
function was performed premature for recursive CTE. This clean up was
induced by the cleanup of the first CTE referenced the recusrsive CTE.
This cleanup destroyed the structures that would allow to read from the
temporary table containing the rows of the recursive CTE and an attempt to read
these rows for the second CTE referencing the recursive CTE triggered a
crash.
The clean up for a recursive CTE R should be performed after the cleanup
of the last materialized CTE that uses R.
The problem described in the bug report happened because the code
did not test check_cols(1) after fix_fields() in a few places.
Additionally, fix_fields() could be called multiple times for SP variables,
because they are all fixed at a early stage in append_for_log().
Solution:
1. Adding a few helper methods
- fix_fields_if_needed()
- fix_fields_if_needed_for_scalar()
- fix_fields_if_needed_for_bool()
- fix_fields_if_needed_for_order_by()
and using it in many cases instead of fix_fields() where
the "fixed" status is not definitely known to be "false".
2. Adding DBUG_ASSERT(!fixed) into Item_splocal*::fix_fields()
to catch double execution.
3. Adding tests.
As a good side effect, the patch removes a lot of duplicate code (~60 lines):

Make sure that SELECT_LEX_UNIT::derived, behaves as documented
(points to the "TABLE_LIST representing this union in the
embedding select"). For recursive CTE this was not necessarily
the case, it could've pointed to the TABLE_LIST inside the CTE,
not in the embedding select.
To fix:
* don't update unit->derived in mysql_derived_prepare(), pass derived
as an argument to st_select_lex_unit::prepare()
* prefer to set unit->derived in TABLE_LIST::init_derived()
to the TABLE_LIST in the embedding select, not to the recursive
reference. Fail if there are many TABLE_LISTs in the embedding
select with conflicting FOR SYSTEM_TIME clauses.
cleanup:
* remove redundant THD* argument from st_select_lex_unit::prepare()
is not supported
Allowed to use recursive references in derived tables.
As a result usage of recursive references in operands of
INTERSECT / EXCEPT is now supported.
This was done in, among other things:
- thd->db and thd->db_length
- TABLE_LIST tablename, db, alias and schema_name
- Audit plugin database name
- lex->db
- All db and table names in Alter_table_ctx
- st_select_lex db
Other things:
- Changed a lot of functions to take const LEX_CSTRING* as argument
for db, table_name and alias. See init_one_table() as an example.
- Changed some function arguments from LEX_CSTRING to const LEX_CSTRING
- Changed some lists from LEX_STRING to LEX_CSTRING
- threads_mysql.result changed because process list_db wasn't always
correctly updated
- New append_identifier() function that takes LEX_CSTRING* as arguments
- Added new element tmp_buff to Alter_table_ctx to separate temp name
handling from temporary space
- Ensure we store the length after my_casedn_str() of table/db names
- Removed not used version of rename_table_in_stat_tables()
- Changed Natural_join_column::table_name and db_name() to never return
NULL (used for print)
- thd->get_db() now returns db as a printable string (thd->db.str or "")
MDEV-14957: JOIN::prepare gets unusable "conds" as argument
Do not touch merged derived (it is irreversible)
Fix first argument of in_optimizer for calls possible before fix_fields()
trx_undo_page_report_modify(): For SPATIAL INDEX, keep logging
updated off-page columns twice, so that
the minimum bounding rectangle (MBR) will be logged.
Avoiding the redundant logging would require larger changes
to the undo log format.
row_build_index_entry_low(): Handle SPATIAL_UNKNOWN more robustly,
by refusing to purge the record from the spatial index.
We can get this code when processing old undo log from 10.2.10 or
10.2.11 (the releases affected by MDEV-14799, which was a regression
from MDEV-14051).
If translation table present when we materialize the derived table then
change it to point to the materialized table.
Added debug info to see really what happens with what derived.
TODO:
- Make get_thd_memroot() inline
- To do this, we need to reduce dependence of include files, especially
so that sql_class.h is not depending in item.h
Make differentiation between pullout for merge and pulout of outer field during exists2in transformation.
In last case the field was outer and so we can safely start from name resolution context of the SELECT where it was pulled.
Old behavior lead to inconsistence between list of tables and outer name resolution context (which skips one SELECT for merge purposes) which creates problem vor name resolution.
- Fix win64 pointer truncation warnings
(usually coming from misusing 0x%lx and long cast in DBUG)
- Also fix printf-format warnings
Make the above mentioned warnings fatal.
- fix pthread_join on Windows to set return value.
Currently condition pushdown into materialized views / derived tables
is not implemented yet (see mdev-12387) and grouping views are
optimized early when subqueries are converted to semi-joins in
convert_join_subqueries_to_semijoins(). If a subquery that is converted
to a semi-join uses a grouping view this view is optimized in two phases.
For such a view V only the first phase of optimization is done after
the conversion of subqueries of the outer join into semi-joins.
At the same time the reference of the view V appears in the join
expression of the outer join. In fixed code there was an attempt to push
conditions into this view and to optimize it after this. This triggered
the second phase of the optimization of the view and it was done
prematurely. The second phase of the optimization for the materialized
view is supposed to be called after the splitting condition is pushed
into the view in the call of JOIN::improve_chosen_plan for the outer
join.
The fix blocks the attempt to push conditions into splittable views
if they have been already partly optimized and the following
optimization for them.
The test case of the patch shows that the code for mdev-13369
basically supported the splitting technique for materialized views /
derived tables.
The patch also replaces the name of the state JOIN::OPTIMIZATION_IN_STAGE_2
for JOIN::OPTIMIZATION_PHASE_1_DONE and fixes a bug in
TABLE_LIST::fetch_number_of_rows()
- Added sql/mariadb.h file that should be included first by files in sql
directory, if sql_plugin.h is not used (sql_plugin.h adds SHOW variables
that must be done before my_global.h is included)
- Removed a lot of include my_global.h from include files
- Removed include's of some files that my_global.h automatically includes
- Removed duplicated include's of my_sys.h
- Replaced include my_config.h with my_global.h
It allows to push conditions into derived with window functions not
only in the cases when the window specifications of these window
functions use the same partition, but also in the cases when the window
functions use partitions that share only some fields. In these
cases only the conditions over the common fields are pushed.
