Let MTR check for error existence after running a test and return it back to user.
Error reporting itset might be much better, but first of all we need to see that
something went wrong.
$glob_mysql_test_dir was the wrong directory for strace output as
it was for in-tree builds only so failed for:
* out of tree builds
* --parallel; and
* --mem
strace output wasn't saved.
strace-option never replaced existing arguments (so ammended
documentation).
strace-client didn't accept an argument as described.
Replaced specification of client with this with 'stracer' to be
consistent with --debugger option.
For consistency with debugger options, --client-strace was added to
execute the strace on the mysqltest.
Example: Running one test
$ ./mtr --strace --client-strace funcs_1.is_table_constraints
Logging: ./mtr --strace --client-strace funcs_1.is_table_constraints

Closes#600
Idea is that many users do not install galera library and do not want
to unnecessary run galera and wsrep suites. Furthermore, failures on
these suites disturb development as buildbot shows red failing column
and causes unnecessary work for those who do not care galera tests.
There will be other way to run these suites on buildbot.
--gdb now accepts an argument, it will be passed to gdb as a command.
multiple commands can be separated by a (non-standard and not escapable)
delimiter - semicolon (;).
Old usage with a bare --gdb continues to work too, of course.

If a mtr test runs multiple servers and only some of them get
restarted on whatever reason with new command-line parameters,
then subsequent mtr test may fail, because no cleanup is performed.
Replication and Galera test suites are affected.
In the mtr script, there is a server_need_restart function
that decides whether we need to start a new mysqld process before
the new (next) test. If the mysqld parameters were changed in the
previous test - not necessarily the parameters of the primary mysqld
server, maybe even the secondary server parameters - this function
decides to start a new mysqld process. But since it does not remove
the old (changed) parameters, the new process starts with the
parameters changed by the *previous* test.
To correct this error, we must delete the modified process
parameters after checking that they have been changed during
the previous test.
This patch also simplifies and makes more stable the
galera_drop_database test, during debugging of which this
problem was detected.
https://jira.mariadb.org/browse/MDEV-17421
If a mtr test case has started two mysqld processes (replication tests),
then kills the first one and kills the second one before starting the
first (so at some point there are two mysqlds down), then the ./mtr
waiting process bricks and forgets to monitor the "expect" file of the
first mysqld, so it never gets started again, even when its contents is
changed to "restart".
A victim of this deficiency is at least galera.galera_gcache_recover.
The fix is to keep a list of all mysqlds we should wait to start, not
just one (the last one killed).
Analyze core independently of max-save-datadir and max-save-core setting.
Increment $num_saved_cores only if core was actually saved.
"Move any core files from e.g. mysqltest" independently of
max-save-datadir setting. Note: it may overwrite core from mysqld, which
might not be desired (it did work this way even before).
MDEV--15609 engines/funcs.crash_manytables_number crashes with error 24
(too many open files)
MDEV-10286 Adjustment of table_open_cache according to system limits
does not work when open-files-limit option is provided
Fixed by adjusting tc_size downwards if there is not enough file
descriptors to use.
Other changes:
- Ensure that there is 30 (was 10) extra file descriptors for other usage
- Decrease TABLE_OPEN_CACHE_MIN to 200 as it's better to have a smaller
table cache than getting error 24
- Increase minimum of max_connections and table_open_cache from 1 to 10
as 1 is not usable for any real application, only for testing.
PREVIOUS TO MYSQL 8.0
Description :
-------------
The mysqld--defaults-file test fails when the test suite is run from a
non-canonical path, which happens when the current working directory
when mysql-test-run.pl is started contains a symbolic link.
The problem is that this test case uses --replace-result with
$MYSQL_TEST_DIR. This variable is a potentially non-canonical path
based on the current working directory when mtr is started. However,
the path in the expected error message from mysqld contains a
canonical path. This means it does not contain $MYSQL_TEST_DIR if
mtr's working directory is not the canonical path of the working
directory.
Because other tests produce output that may contain non-canonical
paths, making $MYSQL_TEST_DIR always canonical is not a fix.
Fix :
-----
Introduced a new environment variable '$ABS_MYSQL_TEST_DIR' which will
contin the canonical path to the test directory and replaced
$MYSQL_TEST_DIR with the new variable in main.mysqld--defaults-file
test file.
This is a back-port of BUG#24579973.

Since 736afe8680 the
mysql_system_tables_data.sql only installs the anonymous
user if skip_auth_anonymous IS NULL.
Its installation is prevented by setting this to 1.
It has its limitations, e.g. it assumes that there's only one
gdb and only one valgrind process is running. And a hard-coded
one-second delay might be too short for slow machines.
Still, it's better than "doesn't work at all"
for multi-file innodb_data_file_path.
Use fil_extend_space_to_desired_size() to correctly extend system
tablespace. Make sure to get tablespace size from the first tablespace
part.
A new $MYSQLD_LAST_CMD evaluation was too late in case --manual-gdb.
Now it is done before the server restart type branches which is safe
and the args value has been fully computed by the new point of
evaluation.
Assertions failed due to incorrect handling of the --tc-heuristic-recover
option when InnoDB is in read-only mode either due to innodb_read_only=1
or innodb_force_recovery>3. InnoDB failed to refuse a XA COMMIT or
XA ROLLBACK operation, and there were errors in the error handling in
the upper layer.
This was fixed by making InnoDB XA operations respect the
high_level_read_only flag. The InnoDB part of the fix and
parts of the test main.tc_heuristic_recover were provided
by Marko Mäkelä.
LOCK_log mutex lock/unlock had to be added to fix MDEV-13438.
The measure is confirmed by mysql sources as well.
For testing of the conflicting option combination, mysql-test-run is
made to export a new $MYSQLD_LAST_CMD. It holds the very last value
generated by mtr.mysqld_start(). Even though the options have been
also always stored in $mysqld->{'started_opts'} there were no access
to them beyond the automatic server restart by mtr through the expect
file interface.
Effectively therefore $MYSQLD_LAST_CMD represents a more general
interface to $mysqld->{'started_opts'} which can be used in wider
scopes including server launch with incompatible options.
Notice another existing method to restart the server with incompatible
options relying on $MYSQLD_CMD is is aware of $mysqld->{'started_opts'}
(the actual options that the server is launched by mtr). In order to use
this method they would have to be provided manually.
NOTE: When merging to 10.2, the file search_pattern_in_file++.inc
should be replaced with the pre-existing search_pattern_in_file.inc.
