02e38e2ece MDEV-33971 NAME_CONST in WHERE clause replaced by inner item
Improve performance of queries like
  SELECT * FROM t1 WHERE field = NAME_CONST('a', 4);
by, in this example, replacing the WHERE clause with field = 4
in the case of ref access.

The rewrite is done during fix_fields and we disambiguate this
case from other cases of NAME_CONST by inspecting where we are
in parsing. We rely on THD::where to accomplish this. To
improve performance there, we change the type of THD::where to
be an enumeration, so we can avoid string comparisons during
Item_name_const::fix_fields.  Consequently, this patch also
changes all usages of THD::where to conform likewise.

Step#3 The main patch
2024-05-24 15:50:05 +04:00
1f4a9f086a Removed "<select expression> INTO <destination>" deprication.
This was done after discussions with Igor, Sanja and Bar.

The main reason for removing the deprication was to ensure that MariaDB
is always backward compatible whenever possible.

Other things:
- Added statistics counters, mainly for the feedback plugin.
  - INTO OUTFILE
  - INTO variable
  - If INTO is using the old syntax (end of query)

5e5a8eda16 Derived tables and union can now create distinct keys
The idea is that instead of marking all select_lex's with DISTINCT, we
only mark those that really need distinct result.

Benefits of this change:
- Temporary tables used with derived tables, UNION, IN are now smaller
  as duplicates are removed already on the insert phase.
- The optimizer can now produce better plans with EQ_REF. This can be
  seen from the tests where several queries does not anymore materialize
  derived tables twice.
- Queries affected by 'in_predicate_conversion_threshold' where large IN
  lists are converted to sub query produces better plans.

Other things:
- Removed on duplicate call to sel->init_select() in
  LEX::add_primary_to_query_expression_body()
- I moved the testing of
  tab->table->pos_in_table_list->is_materialized_derived()
  in join_read_const_table() to the caller as it caused problems for
  derived tables that could be proven to be const tables.
  This also is likely to fix some bugs as if join_read_const_table()
  was aborted, the table was left marked as JT_CONST, which cannot
  be good. I added an ASSERT there for now that can be removed when
  the code has been properly tested.

956980971f Update cost for hash and cached joins
The old code did not't correctly add TIME_FOR_COMPARE to rows that are
part of the scan that will be compared with the attached where clause.

Now the cost calculation for hash join and full join cache join are
identical except for HASH_FANOUT (10%)

The cost for a join with keys is now also uniform.
The total cost for a using a key for lookup is calculated in one place as:

(cost_of_finding_rows_through_key(records) + records/TIME_FOR_COMPARE)*
record_count_of_previous_row_combinations + startup_cost

startup_cost is the cost of a creating a temporary table (if needed)

Best_cost now includes the cost of comparing all WHERE clauses and also
cost of joining with previous row combinations.

Other things:
- Optimizer trace is now printing the total costs, including testing the
  WHERE clause (TIME_FOR_COMPARE) and comparing with all previous rows.
- In optimizer trace, include also total cost of query together with the
  final join order. This makes it easier to find out where the cost was
  calculated.
- Old code used filter even if the cost for it was higher than not using a
  filter. This is not corrected.
- When rebasing on 10.11, I noticed some changes to access_cost_factor
  calculation. These changes was not picked as the coming changes
  to filtering will make that code obsolete.

b67144893a Update matching_candidates_in_table() to treat all conditions similar
Fixed also that the 'with_found_constraint parameter' to
matching_candidates_in_table() is as documented: It is now true only
if there is a reference to a previous table in the WHERE condition for
the current examined table (as it was originally documented)

Changes in test results:
- Filtered was 25% smaller for some queries (expected).
- Some join order changed (probably because the tables had very few rows).
- Some more table scans, probably because there would be fewer returned
  rows.
- Some tests exposes a bug that if there is more filtered rows, then the
  cost for table scan will be higher. This will be fixed in a later commit.

cfb47ddde2 MDEV-30066 (limit + offset) union all (...) limit = incorrect result
select_union_direct::send_data() only sends a record when
the LIMIT ... OFFSET clause of the individual select won't skip it.

Thus, select_union_direct::send_data() should not do any actions
related to a sending a record if the offset of a select isn't
reached yet

2fdb556e04 MDEV-8334: Rename utf8 to utf8mb3
This patch changes the main name of 3 byte character set from utf8 to
utf8mb3. New old_mode UTF8_IS_UTF8MB3 is added and set TRUE by default,
so that utf8 would mean utf8mb3. If not set, utf8 would mean utf8mb4.

fb9a9599bc MDEV-24387: Wrong number of decimal digits in certain UNION/Subqery
constellation

Analysis: The decimals is set to NOT_FIXED_DEC for Field_str even if it is
NULL. Unsigned has decimals=0. So Type_std_attributes::decimals is set to 39
(maximum between 0 and 39). This results in incorrect number of decimals
when we have union of unsigned and NULL type.

Fix: Check if the field is created from NULL value. If yes, set decimals to 0
otherwise set it to NOT_FIXED_DEC.

b1f828a82a MDEV-19134: EXISTS() slower if ORDER BY is defined
Step 1: Removal of ORDER BY [LIMIT] from the subquery should be done
earlier and for broader class of subqueries.

The rewrite was done in Item_in_subselect::select_in_like_transformer(),
but this had problems:
- It didn't cover EXISTS subqueries
- It covered IN-subqueries, but was done after the semi-join transformation
  was considered inapplicable, because ORDER BY was present.

Remaining issue:
- EXISTS->IN transformation happens before
  check_and_do_in_subquery_rewrites() is called, so it is still prevented
  by the present ORDER BY.

ae15f91f22 MDEV-18769 Assertion `fixed == 1' failed in Item_cond_or::val_int
This bug is caused by pushdown from HAVING into WHERE.
    It appears because condition that is pushed wasn't fixed.

    It is also discovered that condition pushdown from HAVING into
    WHERE is done wrong. There is no need to build clones for some
    conditions that can be pushed. They can be simply moved from HAVING
    into WHERE without cloning.
    build_pushable_cond_for_having_pushdown(),
    remove_pushed_top_conjuncts_for_having() methods are changed.

    It is found that there is no transformation made for fields of
    pushed condition.
    field_transformer_for_having_pushdown transformer is added.

    New tests are added. Some comments are changed.

with UNION ALL after INTERSECT

EXPLAIN EXTENDED erroneously showed UNION instead of UNION ALL in

The bug was in the function st_select_lex_unit::print() that printed
the text of the query used in the warning.

7a77b221f1 MDEV-7486: Condition pushdown from HAVING into WHERE
Condition can be pushed from the HAVING clause into the WHERE clause
if it depends only on the fields that are used in the GROUP BY list
or depends on the fields that are equal to grouping fields.
Aggregate functions can't be pushed down.

How the pushdown is performed on the example:

SELECT t1.a,MAX(t1.b)
FROM t1
GROUP BY t1.a
HAVING (t1.a>2) AND (MAX(c)>12);

=>

SELECT t1.a,MAX(t1.b)
FROM t1
WHERE (t1.a>2)
GROUP BY t1.a
HAVING (MAX(c)>12);

The implementation scheme:

1. Extract the most restrictive condition cond from the HAVING clause of
   the select that depends only on the fields that are used in the GROUP BY
   list of the select (directly or indirectly through equalities)
2. Save cond as a condition that can be pushed into the WHERE clause
   of the select
3. Remove cond from the HAVING clause if it is possible

The optimization is implemented in the function
st_select_lex::pushdown_from_having_into_where().

New test file having_cond_pushdown.test is created.
