Before commit 6112853cda in MySQL 4.1.1
introduced the parameter innodb_file_per_table, all InnoDB data was
written to the InnoDB system tablespace (often named ibdata1).
A serious design problem is that once the system tablespace has grown to
some size, it cannot shrink even if the data inside it has been deleted.
There are also other design problems, such as the server hang MDEV-29930
that should only be possible when using innodb_file_per_table=0 and
innodb_undo_tablespaces=0 (storing both tables and undo logs in the
InnoDB system tablespace).
The parameter innodb_change_buffering was deprecated
in commit b5852ffbee.
Starting with commit baf276e6d4
(MDEV-19229) the number of innodb_undo_tablespaces can be increased,
so that the undo logs can be moved out of the system tablespace
of an existing installation.
If all these things (tables, undo logs, and the change buffer) are
removed from the InnoDB system tablespace, the only variable-size
data structure inside it is the InnoDB data dictionary.
DDL operations on .ibd files was optimized in
commit 86dc7b4d4c (MDEV-24626).
That should have removed any thinkable performance advantage of
using innodb_file_per_table=0.
Since there should be no benefit of setting innodb_file_per_table=0,
the parameter should be deprecated. Starting with MySQL 5.6 and
MariaDB Server 10.0, the default value is innodb_file_per_table=1.
MDEV-13851 Always check table options in ALTER TABLE…ALGORITHM=INPLACE
In the merge of MySQL 5.7.9 to MariaDB 10.2.2, some code was included
that prevents ADD SPATIAL INDEX from being executed with ALGORITHM=INPLACE.
Also, the constant ADD_SPATIAL_INDEX was introduced as an alias
to ADD_INDEX. We will remove that alias now, and properly implement
the same ADD SPATIAL INDEX restrictions as MySQL 5.7 does:
1. table-rebuilding operations are not allowed if SPATIAL INDEX survive it
2. ALTER TABLE…ADD SPATIAL INDEX…LOCK=NONE is not allowed
ha_innobase::prepare_inplace_alter_table(): If the ALTER TABLE
requires actions within InnoDB, enforce the table options (MDEV-13851).
In this way, we will keep denying ADD SPATIAL INDEX for tables
that use encryption (MDEV-11974), even if ALGORITHM=INPLACE is used.
The following options will be removed:
innodb_file_format
innodb_file_format_check
innodb_file_format_max
innodb_large_prefix
They have been deprecated in MySQL 5.7.7 (and MariaDB 10.2.2) in WL#7703.
The file_format column in two INFORMATION_SCHEMA tables will be removed:
innodb_sys_tablespaces
innodb_sys_tables
Code to update the file format tag at the end of page 0:5
(TRX_SYS_PAGE in the InnoDB system tablespace) will be removed.
When initializing a new database, the bytes will remain 0.
All references to the Barracuda file format will be removed.
Some references to the Antelope file format (meaning
ROW_FORMAT=REDUNDANT or ROW_FORMAT=COMPACT) will remain.
This basically ports WL#7704 from MySQL 8.0.0 to MariaDB 10.3.1:
commit 4a69dc2a95995501ed92d59a1de74414a38540c6

When MySQL 5.7.9 (and MariaDB Server 10.2) introduced
innodb_default_row_format and made ROW_FORMAT=DYNAMIC the default,
it became possible to create any ROW_FORMAT tables in the InnoDB
system tablespace, except ROW_FORMAT=COMPRESSED.
In MySQL 5.7, it is possible to create ROW_FORMAT=DYNAMIC
tables when TABLESPACE=innodb_system is explicitly specified.
Because MariaDB Server 10.2 does not support the MySQL 5.7
TABLESPACE=innodb_system attribute for tables, we should allow
ROW_FORMAT=DYNAMIC when innodb_file_per_table=0.
Also, remove the test innodb_zip.innodb-create-options, which was
an outdated copy of innodb_zip.create_options.

The failure happened because 5.7 has changed the signature of
