Add SQL_CACHE=0|1 option for tables to disable/enable query caches if
table is part of the query.
SQL_CACHE option can be disable for a table by using SQL_CACHE=DEFAULT
Also provide a workaround for the problem described at:
MDEV-6631 "No cache directive(SQL_CACHE) query still wait for
query cache lock" on query_cache_type=DEMAND mode"
by adding DEMAND_STRICT mode.
The new mode is needed as modifying how DEMAND works would made the
change backward incompatible.
query_cache_type has now following options (0-2 are same as before)
OFF (0) = Query cache off
ON (1) = Query cache on, all queries are cached except queries marked
with SQL_NO_CACHE
DEMAND (2) = Query cache on, only queries marked with SQL_CACHE are cached
DEMAND_STRICT
(3) = Query cache on, only queries starting with SELECT SQL_CACHE
are cached. This avoids a query cache lock+lookup for every
query.
TABLES (4) = Query cache on, only cache queries marked with SQL_CACHE or
where all used tables are using the create option SQL_CACHE=1
Note that if any of the tables used in the query has the create option
SQL_CACHE=0 or is a system table, temporary table or other non
cacheable table, then the query will not be cached.
SHOW CREATE TABLE prints SQL_CACHE=0|1 when the option is set. For tables
where the option can never apply (temporary tables, tables in the mysql
database, and engines that do not support the query cache) it is printed
as /* SQL_CACHE=1 */.

- Took some changes related to MDEV-6631 from his patch.
The reason for the failure was a wrong assert in
mark_tmp_table_as_free_for_reuse()
The purpose of the assert was to find of it a temporary table would
be wrongly marked as 'not up to date'.
However there is no easy way to do that, so better to remove the
assert. It has already proven that for most cases this does not happen.
Instead of `NULL`ifying of this member a finer approach is taken to
screen the replicated temporary tables from the slave applier
when it runs within `start_new_trans` context.
For that *all* access critical `THD::{has,lock,unlock}_temporary_tables`
functions are made to check possible `start_new_trans` condition.
This measure forces `start_new_trans` executing slave thread to always take
the normal thread access path to a temporary table repository.
This commit also unifies with sql/temporary_tables.cc checking of the
current thread is slave with usage of THD::rgi_slave instead of
THD::slave_thread (last time chosen by MDEV-33426).
Tested with rpl.create_or_replace_mix2 of GTT feature branch.
- Removed duplicate words, like "the the" and "to to"
- Removed duplicate lines (one double sort line found in mysql.cc)
- Fixed some typos found while searching for duplicate words.
Command used to find duplicate words:
egrep -rI "\s([a-zA-Z]+)\s+\1\s" | grep -v param
Thanks to Artjoms Rimdjonoks for the command and pointing out the
spelling errors.
main/statistics_json.result is updated for f8ba5ced55 (MDEV-36099)
The test uses 'delete from t1' in many places and then populates
the table again. The natural order of rows in a MyISAM table is well
defined and the test was implicitly relying on that.
before f8ba5ced55 delete was deleting rows one by one, using
ha_myisam::delete_row() because the connection was stuck in rbr mode.
This caused rows to be shown in the reverse insertion order (because of
the delete link list).
MDEV-36099 fixes this bug and the server now correctly uses
ha_myisam::delete_all_rows(). This makes rows to be shown in the
insertion order as expected.
Assertion fails because table is opened by admin_recreate_table():
71 result_code= (thd->open_temporary_tables(table_list) ||
72 mysql_recreate_table(thd, table_list, recreate_info, false));
And that is called because t2 is failed with HA_ADMIN_NOT_IMPLEMENTED:
1093 if (result_code == HA_ADMIN_NOT_IMPLEMENTED && need_repair_or_alter)
1094 {
1095 /*
1096 repair was not implemented and we need to upgrade the table
1097 to a new version so we recreate the table with ALTER TABLE
1098 */
1099 result_code= admin_recreate_table(thd, table, &recreate_info);
1100 }
Actually 'table' is t2 but open_temporary_tables() opens whole list,
i.e. t2 and everything what follows it before first_not_own_table().
Therefore t3 is also opened for t2 processing what is wrong.
The fix opens exactly one specific table for HA_ADMIN_NOT_IMPLEMENTED.
MDEV-36563 Assertion `!mysql_bin_log.is_open()' failed in
THD::mark_tmp_table_as_free_for_reuse
The purpose of this commit is to ensure that creation and changes of
temporary tables are properly and predicable logged to the binary
log. It also fixes some bugs where ROW logging was used in MIXED mode,
when STATEMENT would be a better (and expected) choice.
In this comment STATEMENT stands for logging to binary log in
STATEMENT format, MIXED stands for MIXED binlog format and ROW for ROW
binlog format.
New rules for logging of temporary tables
- CREATE of temporary tables are now by default binlogged only if
STATEMENT binlog format is used. If it is binlogged, 1 is stored in
TABLE_SHARE->table_creation_was_logged. The user can change this
behavior by setting create_temporary_table_binlog_formats to
MIXED,STATEMENT in which case the create is logged in statement
format also in MIXED mode (as before).
- Changes to temporary tables are only binlogged if and only if
the CREATE was logged. The logging happens under STATEMENT or MIXED.
If binlog_format=ROW, temporary table changes are not binlogged. A
temporary table that are changed under ROW are marked as 'not up to
date in binlog' and no future row changes are logged. Any usage of
this temporary table will force row logging of other tables in any
future statements using the temporary table to be row logged.
- DROP TEMPORARY is binlogged only of the CREATE was binlogged.
Changes done:
- Row logging is forced for any statement using temporary tables that
are not up to date in the binary log.
(Before the row logging was forced if the user has a temporary table)
- If there is any changes to the temporary table that is not binlogged,
the table is marked as not up to date.
- TABLE_SHARE->table_creation_was_logged has a new definition for
temporary tables:
0 Table creating was not logged to binary log
1 Table creating was logged to binary log and table is up to date.
2 Table creating was logged to binary log but some changes where
not logged to binary log.
Table is not up to date in binary log is defined as value 0 or 2.
- If a multi-table-update or multi-table-delete fails then
all updated temporary tables are marked as not up to date.
- Enforce row logging if the query is using temporary tables
that are not up to date.
Before row logging was enforced if the user had any
temporary tables.
- When dropping temporary tables use IF EXISTS. This ensures
that slave will not stop if it had crashed and lost the
temporary tables.
- Remove comment and version from DROP /*!4000 TEMPORARY.. generated when
a connection closes that has open temporary tables. Added 'generated by
server' at the end of the DROP.
Bugs fixed:
- When using temporary tables with commands that forced row based,
like INSERT INTO temporary_table VALUES (UUID()), this was never
logged which causes the temporary table to be inconsistent on
master and slave.
- Used binlog format is now clearly defined. It is now only depending
on the current binlog_format and the tables used.
Before it was depending on the user had ANY temporary tables and
the state of 'current_stmt_binlog_format' set by previous queries.
This also caused temporary tables to be logged to binary log in
some cases.
- CREATE TABLE t1 LIKE not_logged_temporary_table caused replication
to stop.
- Rename of not binlogged temporary tables where binlogged to binary log
which caused replication to stop.
Changes in behavior:
- By default create_temporary_table_binlog_formats=STATEMENT, which
means that CREATE TEMPORARY is not logged to binary log under MIXED
binary logging. This can be changed by setting
create_temporary_table_binlog_formats to MIXED,STATEMENT.
- Using temporary tables that was not logged to the binary log will
cause any query using them for updating other tables to be logged in
ROW format. Before all queries was logged in ROW format if the user had
any temporary tables, even if they were not used by the query.
- Generated DROP TEMPORARY TABLE is now always using IF EXISTS and
has a "generated by server" comment in the binary log.
The consequences of the above is that manipulations of a lot of rows
through temporary tables will by default be be slower in mixed mode.
For example:
BEGIN;
CREATE TEMPORARY TABLE tmp AS SELECT a, b, c FROM
large_table1 JOIN large_table2 ON ...;
INSERT INTO other_table SELECT b, c FROM tmp WHERE a <100;
DROP TEMPORARY TABLE tmp;
COMMIT;
By default this will create a huge entry in the binary log, compared
to just a few hundred bytes in statement mode. However the change in
this commit will make usage of temporary tables more reliable and
predicable and is thus worth it. Using statement mode or
create_temporary_table_binlog_formats can be used to avoid this issue.
let the caller tell init_tmp_table_share() whether the table
should be thread_specific or not.
In particular, internal tmp tables created in the slave thread
are perfectly thread specific

- Removing the virtual function strnncoll() from MY_COLLATION_HANDLER
- Adding a wrapper function CHARSET_INFO::streq(), to compare
two strings for equality. For now it calls strnncoll() internally.
In the future it will turn into a virtual function.
- Adding new accent sensitive case insensitive collations:
- utf8mb4_general1400_as_ci
- utf8mb3_general1400_as_ci
They implement accent sensitive case insensitive comparison.
The weight of a character is equal to the code point of its
upper case variant. These collations use Unicode-14.0.0 casefolding data.
The result of
my_charset_utf8mb3_general1400_as_ci.strcoll()
is very close to the former
my_charset_utf8mb3_general_ci.strcasecmp()
There is only a difference in a couple dozen rare characters, because:
- the switch from "tolower" to "toupper" comparison, to make
utf8mb3_general1400_as_ci closer to utf8mb3_general_ci
- the switch from Unicode-3.0.0 to Unicode-14.0.0
This difference should be tolarable. See the list of affected
characters in the MDEV description.
Note, utf8mb4_general1400_as_ci correctly handles non-BMP characters!
Unlike utf8mb4_general_ci, it does not treat all BMP characters
as equal.
- Adding classes representing names of the file based database objects:
Lex_ident_db
Lex_ident_table
Lex_ident_trigger
Their comparison collation depends on the underlying
file system case sensitivity and on --lower-case-table-names
and can be either my_charset_bin or my_charset_utf8mb3_general1400_as_ci.
- Adding classes representing names of other database objects,
whose names have case insensitive comparison style,
using my_charset_utf8mb3_general1400_as_ci:
Lex_ident_column
Lex_ident_sys_var
Lex_ident_user_var
Lex_ident_sp_var
Lex_ident_ps
Lex_ident_i_s_table
Lex_ident_window
Lex_ident_func
Lex_ident_partition
Lex_ident_with_element
Lex_ident_rpl_filter
Lex_ident_master_info
Lex_ident_host
Lex_ident_locale
Lex_ident_plugin
Lex_ident_engine
Lex_ident_server
Lex_ident_savepoint
Lex_ident_charset
engine_option_value::Name
- All the mentioned Lex_ident_xxx classes implement a method streq():
if (ident1.streq(ident2))
do_equal();
This method works as a wrapper for CHARSET_INFO::streq().
- Changing a lot of "LEX_CSTRING name" to "Lex_ident_xxx name"
in class members and in function/method parameters.
- Replacing all calls like
system_charset_info->coll->strcasecmp(ident1, ident2)
to
ident1.streq(ident2)
- Taking advantage of the c++11 user defined literal operator
for LEX_CSTRING (see m_strings.h) and Lex_ident_xxx (see lex_ident.h)
data types. Use example:
const Lex_ident_column primary_key_name= "PRIMARY"_Lex_ident_column;
is now a shorter version of:
const Lex_ident_column primary_key_name=
Lex_ident_column({STRING_WITH_LEN("PRIMARY")});
Some fixes related to commit f838b2d799 and
Rows_log_event::do_apply_event() and Update_rows_log_event::do_exec_row()
for system-versioned tables were provided by Nikita Malyavin.
This was required by test versioning.rpl,trx_id,row.
Aria temporary tables account allocated memory as specific to the current
THD. But this fails for slave threads, where the temporary tables need to be
detached from any specific THD.
Introduce a new flag to mark temporary tables in replication as "global",
and use that inside Aria to not account memory allocations as thread
specific for such tables.

general replcation problem, already fixed earlier.

2. ER_LOCK_WAIT_TIMEOUT
This is a long unique specific problem.
Sometimes, lookup_handler is created for to->file. To properly free it,
ha_reset should be called. It is usually done by calling
close_thread_table, but ALTER TABLE makes it differently. Hence, a single
ha_reset call is added to mysql_alter_table.
Also, event_mem_root is removed. Normally, no per-event data should be
allocated on thd->mem_root, that would mean a leak. And otherwise,
lookup_handler is lazily allocated, but its lifetime matches statement,
not event.
Any TMP_TABLE_SHARE must always have at least one TABLE instance.
So whenever a temporary TABLE that is marked for reopen is closed,
reopen it at once if its TMP_TABLE_SHARE list of tables becomes empty.
This patch also fixes some bugs detected by valgrind after this
patch:
- Not enough copy_func elements was allocated by Create_tmp_table() which
causes an memory overwrite in Create_tmp_table::add_fields()
I added an ASSERT() to be able to detect this also without valgrind.
The bug was that TMP_TABLE_PARAM::copy_fields was not correctly set
when calling create_tmp_table().
- Aria::empty_bits is not allocated if there is no varchar/char/blob
fields in the table. Fixed code to take this into account.
This cannot cause any issues as this is just a memory access
into other Aria memory and the content of the memory would not be used.
- Aria::last_key_buff was not allocated big enough. This may have caused
issues with rtrees and ma_extra(HA_EXTRA_REMEMBER_POS) as they
would use the same memory area.
- Aria and MyISAM didn't take extended key parts into account, which
caused problems when copying rec_per_key from engine to sql level.
- Mark asan builds with 'asan' in version strihng to detect these in
not_valgrind_build.inc.
This is needed to not have main.sp-no-valgrind fail with asan.
Problem: In regular replication, when master binlogged using statement format
slave might not have written an event to its binary log when the Query
event aimed at a temporary table.
Specifically this was observed with LOAD DATA INFILE.
This effect was possible because unlike master slave holds temporary
tables in its pool and the master side check of existence of a
temporary table at the format bin-logging decision did not apply.
Solution: replace THD::has_thd_temporary_tables() with
THD::has_temporary_tables which allows to identify temporary table
presence on either side.
