THD::cleanup() cleared THD::wsrep_client_thread. Besides connection
close, THD::cleanup() is also called from THD::change_user() when
handling COM_CHANGE_USER and COM_RESET_CONNECTION. THD::init() does
not set the flag back, and the only place that sets it is
thd_prepare_connection(). After either command the session was no
longer treated as a wsrep client connection: WSREP_CLIENT() returned
false for the rest of the session.
As a result wsrep_sync_wait was silently ignored, so causal reads
could return stale data. Such connections were also skipped by
wsrep_close_client_connections() and
wsrep_wait_committing_connections_close(). Connection pools issue
COM_RESET_CONNECTION whenever a connection is reused, so in practice
most pooled sessions were affected.
Fix by moving the reset of wsrep_client_thread from THD::cleanup()
to end_connection(), after wsrep_close().
The galera.galera_change_user test is extended to do a causal read
on a fresh connection, after COM_CHANGE_USER and after
COM_RESET_CONNECTION. Each read must increase the provider's
wsrep_causal_reads status counter.
Defer the host-privileged/host-blocked check for a PROXY-header-derived
address until after the client's SSL handshake completes, instead of
sending it immediately in clear text.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Sonnet 5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
With proxy protocol thd_set_peer_addr() runs twice (proxy host, then the
real client from the proxy header). Connect errors are accounted against
the real client, but check_connection() incorrectly uses condition on the
proxy host's count, rather than real client's address.
Fix: reset both the proxy host, and real client's connect errors on
successful connection.
Added tests for incomplete handshake, and reset behavior,
under proxy protocol, for both real client errors, and proxy host errors.
When proxy protocol is used and --skip-name-resolve is not set,
thd_set_peer_addr() is called twice per connection: once for the real TCP peer (in check_connection),
and again for the proxied address (in handle_proxy_header).
Each call invokes ip_to_hostname(), which allocates a hostname string
(unless loopback connection is used) and stores it as
thd->main_security_ctx.host. That code missed to free previously
allocated hostname, which results into memory leak.
This is now fixed. Also added debug-only test to mysql_client_test, which
fakes DNS and IP resolution the same way some perfschema tests do, to
emulate remote TCP connection in MTR.
Keep concurrent_connections updated when user stats are enabled. When a user
connects, the count in concurrent_connections increases by one; when they
disconnect, it decreases by one.
Setting the global userstat begins counting new concurrent sessions from that
point forward; pre-existing concurrent sessions are not counted until they are
restarted. Ideally this configuration is set in the my.cnf file so as to
apply from server startup, ensuring that the counter is consistent. If it
is set during the server's lifetime (via SET GLOBAL userstat=1) it is
recommended to do so before concurrent user sessions exist for accurate
counts.

MDEV-34348: MariaDB is violating clang-16 -Wcast-function-type-strict
Change the type of my_hash_get_key to:
1) Return const
2) Change the context parameter to be const void*
Also fix casting in hash adjacent areas.

The problem was that when using clang + asan, we do not get a correct value
for the thread stack as some local variables are not allocated at the
normal stack.
It looks like that for example clang 18.1.3, when compiling with
-O2 -fsanitize=addressan it puts local variables and things allocated by
alloca() in other areas than on the stack.
The following code shows the issue
Thread 6 "mariadbd" hit Breakpoint 3, do_handle_one_connection

r13 0x7fffedee7060 140737185214560
r13 is pointing to the address of the thd. Probably some kind of
"local stack" used by the sanitizer
I have verified this with gdb on a recursive call that calls alloca()
in a loop. In this case all objects was stored in a local heap,
not on the stack.
To solve this issue in a portable way, I have added two functions:
my_get_stack_pointer() returns the address of the current stack pointer.
The code is using asm instructions for intel 32/64 bit, powerpc,
arm 32/64 bit and sparc 32/64 bit.
Supported compilers are gcc, clang and MSVC.
For MSVC 64 bit we are using _AddressOfReturnAddress()
As a fallback for other compilers/arch we use the address of a local
variable.
my_get_stack_bounds() that will return the address of the base stack
and stack size using pthread_attr_getstack() or NtCurrentTed() with
fallback to using the address of a local variable and user provided
stack size.
Server changes are:
- Moving setting of thread_stack to THD::store_globals() using
my_get_stack_bounds().
- Removing setting of thd->thread_stack, except in functions that
allocates a lot on the stack before calling store_globals(). When
using estimates for stack start, we reduce stack_size with
MY_STACK_SAFE_MARGIN (8192) to take into account the stack used
before calling store_globals().
I also added a unittest, stack_allocation-t, to verify the new code.

potentially unsafe memory overflow with strcpy() whose use is
discouraged.
Replace instances of strcpy() with safe_strcpy() where possible, limited

In some cases "SHOW PROCESSLIST" could show "Reset for next command"
as State, even if the previous query had finished properly.
Fixed by clearing State after end of command and also setting the State
for the "Connect" command.
Other things:
- Changed usage of 'thd->set_command(COM_SLEEP)' to
'thd->mark_connection_idle()'.
- Changed thread_state_info() to return "" instead of NULL. This is
just a safety measurement and in line with the logic of the
rest of the function.
Because of the default warning level, aborted unauthenticated
connections are in the error log. These errors frequently occur
in production environments because cancelled connectiosn occur
all the time when web pages are shutdown.
Rather than flood our user's errors log with these ordinary
messages, lets push them down to the warning level at log-warnings=4
level.
Concept approved by Monty.
Do not repeat yourself.

This change removed 68 explict strlen() calls from the code.
The following renames was done to ensure we don't use the old names

for print function could result in crashes:
- charset->csname renamed to charset->cs_name
- charset->name renamed to charset->coll_name

- Changed to use the new Protocol::store(LEX_CSTRING..) when possible
- Changed to use field->store(LEX_CSTRING*, CHARSET_INFO*) when possible
- Changed to use String->append(LEX_CSTRING&) when possible
Other things:
- There where compiler issues with ensuring that all character set names
points to the same string: gcc doesn't allow one to use integer constants
when defining global structures (constant char * pointers works fine).
To get around this, I declared defines for each character set name
length.
Protocol_local fixed so it can be used now.

Other things:
- Removed set_time() from THD::init_for_queries() as dispatch_command()

- Removed duplicate init_for_queries() from prepare_new_connection_state().
The init_for_queries() functions should only be called once per
connection.
