99ce6f6977 MDEV-23864 BULK insert wrong values when command contain inner select
Optimized array binding INSERT/REPLACE executes the statement once,
so subqueries are executed with the first set of parameters only.

Execute INSERT/REPLACE, where a subquery result depends on parameters,
for every set of parameters (as not optimized array binding commands
are executed), keeping the first generated id as the result of the
whole operation.
Per-row execution also needs warnings counted once, RETURNING metadata
sent once (also after reprepare), and an error allowed after
successful rows.

fb32a71fde MDEV-41385 wsrep_sync_wait has no effect after COM_CHANGE_USER
Also reported as: https://github.com/mariadb-corporation/galera/issues/613.

THD::cleanup() cleared THD::wsrep_client_thread. Besides connection
close, THD::cleanup() is also called from THD::change_user() when
handling COM_CHANGE_USER and COM_RESET_CONNECTION. THD::init() does
not set the flag back, and the only place that sets it is
thd_prepare_connection(). After either command the session was no
longer treated as a wsrep client connection: WSREP_CLIENT() returned
false for the rest of the session.

As a result wsrep_sync_wait was silently ignored, so causal reads
could return stale data. Such connections were also skipped by
wsrep_close_client_connections() and
wsrep_wait_committing_connections_close(). Connection pools issue
COM_RESET_CONNECTION whenever a connection is reused, so in practice
most pooled sessions were affected.

Fix by moving the reset of wsrep_client_thread from THD::cleanup()
to end_connection(), after wsrep_close().

The galera.galera_change_user test is extended to do a causal read
on a fresh connection, after COM_CHANGE_USER and after
COM_RESET_CONNECTION. Each read must increase the provider's
wsrep_causal_reads status counter.

1a572838e2 MDEV-40554 KILL checks user (not priv_user) and doesn't verify hostname
The "is it my own thread" check compared the login user name
(Security_context::user) and ignored the host, so u1@localhost could see
and kill threads of u1@'127.0.0.1'.

Compare the authenticated account instead:

* all comparisons are done in sctx->is_priv_user() now
* change user_matches() to priv_user_matches(), which uses is_priv_user()
* use it in KILL, KILL USER, SHOW PROCESSLIST, I_S.PROCESSLIST,
  COM_PROCESS_INFO and SHOW EXPLAIN/ANALYZE FOR.
* all the remaining places use is_priv_user() directly instead
  of doing strcmp: SHOW GRANTS, SHOW CREATE PROCEDURE, I_S.VIEWS,
  the DEFINER clause, optimizer trace and change_security_context().

20d2217afa MDEV-40337 store user vars in a dedicated memroot
user_var_entry objects and their names have a connection lifetime,
they exist until the connection ends (or is reset), and then they're
all deleted at once. This is exactly the use case for MEM_ROOT,
let's store them there.

Additionally, let's set MY_ROOT_USE_VMEM flag to keep this memroot
off the general heap where user_var_entry values are stored
and where heap buffer overflows can happen.

The latter makes memory allocations for the MEM_ROOT about 10x more
expensive, so let's always start with an empty memroot (= zero overhead
if no user variables are used) and on THD cleanup let's retain one
memroot block (= zero overhead if the next connection takes THD from the
cache and uses user variables up to one block size).

0152c617e8 MDEV-39261 MariaDB crash on startup in presence of indexed virtual columns
Problem:
========
Purge threads computing virtual columns could crash due to:
1. Stale TABLE* pointers when tables are flushed/rebuilt during purge
2. open_purge_table() called close_thread_tables() on failure, making
MDL tickets invalid before purge could release them
3. Purge coordinator opened TABLE* but workers accessed it with wrong
TABLE->in_use
4. No retry mechanism when open_purge_table() failed due to concurrent
FLUSH TABLES, BACKUP STAGE, or ALTER TABLE operations

Solution:
========
1. Removed close_thread_tables() from open_purge_table(). Purge
coordinator thread should close explicitly in close_and_reopen()

2. Added retry logic: when open_purge_table() returns NULL due to
table flush/rebuild, set must_wait() flag and retry in
close_and_reopen()

3. Update close_and_reopen() with purge_table parameter to
close the failed table. Pass it to trx_purge_close_tables()
for proper cleanup

4. Properly set and reset TABLE::in_use during purge operations:
- Set to coordinator_thd in row_purge_parse_undo_rec() when opening
- Reset in trx_purge_close_table() when closing

5. The auto_increment initialization now happens unconditionally for
purge threads , ensuring the auto_increment counter is always
properly initialized when purge opens tables with virtual columns

df97bffc73 MDEV-39261 MariaDB crash on startup in presence of indexed virtual columns
Problem:
========
A single InnoDB purge worker thread can process undo logs from different
tables within the same batch. But get_purge_table(), open_purge_table()
incorrectly assumes that a 1:1 relationship between a purge worker thread
and a table within a single batch. Based on this wrong assumtion,
InnoDB attempts to reuse TABLE objects cached in thd->open_tables for
virtual column computation.

1) Purge worker opens Table A and caches the TABLE pointer in thd->open_tables.
2) Same purge worker moves to Table B in the same batch, get_purge_table()
retrieves the cached pointer for Table A instead of opening Table B.
3) Because innobase::open() is ignored for Table B, the virtual column
template is never initialized.
4) virtual column computation for Table B aborts the server

Solution:
========
- Introduced purge_table class which has the following
purge_table: Stores either TABLE* (for tables with indexed virtual
columns) or MDL_ticket* (for tables without) in a single union
using LSB as a flag.
For tables with indexed virtual columns: opens TABLE*, accesses
MDL_ticket* via TABLE->mdl_ticket
For tables without indexed virtual columns: stores only MDL_ticket*.

trx_purge_attach_undo_recs(): Coordinator opens both dict_table_t*
and TABLE* with proper MDL protection. Workers access cached
table pointers from purge_node_t->tables without opening
their own handles

purge_sys.coordinator_thd: Distinguish coordinator from workers
in cleanup logic. Skip innobase_reset_background_thd() for
coordinator thread to prevent premature table closure during
batch processing. Workers still call cleanup to release their
thread-local resources

trx_purge_close_tables():
Rewrite for purge coordinator thread
1) Close all dict_table_t* objects first
2) Call close_thread_tables() once for all TABLE* objects
3) Release MDL tickets last, after tables are closed

Added table->lock_mutex protection when reading (or) writing
vc_templ->mysql_table and mysql_table_query_id. Clear cached
TABLE* pointers before closing tables to prevent stale pointer
access

Declared open_purge_table() and close_thread_tables() in trx0purge.cc
Declared reset_thd() in row0purge.cc and dict0stats_bg.cc.
Removed innobase_reset_background_thd()

cbcff6324a MDEV-39173 Replace sprintf with snprintf, remove deprecated pragma
Remove the unscoped #pragma GCC diagnostic ignored
"-Wdeprecated-declarations" from include/violite.h and replace all
sprintf/vsprintf calls with snprintf/vsnprintf across the codebase.

Where possible, pass actual buffer sizes as function parameters
instead of using hardcoded constants or recomputing strlen().
Notable API changes:
- get_date(): added to_len parameter for buffer size
- nice_time(), end_timer() in client/mysql.cc: added buff_size
- generate_new_name(): added name_size parameter
- calc_md5(): added buffer_size parameter (fixes off-by-one)
- MD5_HASH_TO_STRING macro: added _size parameter
- Added MYSQL_UDF_MAX_RESULT_LENGTH constant in mysql_com.h

Also fixed a pre-existing bug in sql/rpl_mi.cc where the ellipsis
"..." was written to the wrong buffer (dbuff instead of buff).

Vendored code is excluded: extra/readline, extra/wolfssl,
wsrep-lib, libmariadb, storage/mroonga/vendor, zlib.

e40277d29b MDEV-38218 : Galera test failure on galera_bf_abort_flush_for_export
Problem was in wsrep_handle_mdl_conflict function was comparing
thd->lex->sql_command variable for granted MDL-lock.

There is two possible schedules:

    (1) FLUSH TABLES ... FOR EXPORT that will take MDL-lock (granted_thd).
        INSERT from other node is conflicting operation (request_thd)
        and sees MDL-conflict. Because granted_thd has not executed anything
        else thd->lex->sql_command == SQLCOM_FLUSH and this case was
        correctly handled in wsrep_handle_mdl_conflict i.e. INSERT needs
        to wait.

    (2) FLUSH TABLES ... FOR EXPORT that will take MDL-lock (granted_thd).
        SET SESSION wsrep_sync_wait=0; (granted_thd)
        INSERT from other node is conflicting operation (request_thd)

        However, thd->lex->sql_command is not stored to taken MDL-lock. Now
        as granted_thd is executing SET thd->lex->sql_command != SQLCOM_FLUSH
        and INSERT that is BF will abort it and that means also FTFE is
        killed and MDL-lock relesed. This is incorrect as FTFE has written
        file on filesystem and it can't be really killed.

In this fix wsrep_handle_mdl_conflict is refactored not to use
thd->lex->sql_command as a variable used for decisions. Instead
connection state can be determined also via THD members. E.g.:

    * wsrep_thd_is_toi() || wsrep_thd_is_applying - ongoing TOI or applier
    * wsrep_thd_is_BF - thread is brute force
    * wsrep_thd_is_SR - thread is streaming replication thread
    * thd->current_backup_stage != BACKUP_FINISHED - there's ongoing BACKUP
    * thd->global_read_lock.is_acquired() - ongoing FTWRL
    * thd->locked_tables_mode == LTM_LOCK_TABLES - ongoing FTFE or LOCK TABLES

3241798214 MDEV-37686 rpl.create_or_replace_mix2 fails in MDEV-35915 branch
The test failed as the Jira ticket describes because of insufficient
main transaction isolation from an out-of-band dynamic "new" transaction.
Specifically the replicated transaction's temporary tables became
accessible to the "new" transaction.

The fixes ensure the "new" transaction can't reach any piece of
replication transaction execution context, the temporary table list
including.
This is safe as by so far start_new_trans class instances
need not any replication info, as it must've been anticipated by design.

9aca89fa9f MDEV-37619 The forced use of THD accessors hurts InnoDB performance
Let us access some data members of THD directly, instead of invoking
non-inline accessor functions. Note: my_thread_id will be used instead
of the potentially narrower ulong data type.

Also, let us remove some functions from sql_class.cc that were only
being used by InnoDB or RocksDB, for no reason. RocksDB always had
access to the internals of THD.

33e845595d MDEV-36839: Revert MDEV-7409
MDEV-6247 added PROCESSLIST states for when a Replication
SQL thread processes Row events, including a WSRep variant
that dynamically includes the Galera Sequence Number.
MDEV-7409 further expanded on it by adding the table name to the states.

However, PROCESSLIST __cannot__ support generated states.
Because it loads the state texts asynchronously,
only permanently static strings are safe.
Even thread-local memory can become invalid when the thread terminates,
which can happen in the middle of generating a PROCESSLIST.

To prioritize memory safety, this commit reverts both variants to
static strings as the non-WSRep variant was before MDEV-7409.
* __Fully__ revert MDEV-7409 (d9898c9a71)
* Remove the WSRep override from MDEV-6247
  * Remove `THD::wsrep_info` and its compiler
    flag `WSREP_PROC_INFO` as they are now unused

This commit also includes small optimizations
from MDEV-36839’s previous draft, #4133.

2c7cea28da MDEV-31721: Cursor protocol increases the counter of "Empty_queries" for select
Problem:
  Empty queries are incremented if no rows are sent to the client in the
  EXECUTE phase of select query. With cursor protocol, rows are not sent
  during EXECUTE phase; they are sent later in FETCH phase. Hence,
  queries executed with cursor protocol are always falsely treated as
  empty in EXECUTE phase.

Fix:
  For cursor protocol, empty queries are now counted during the FETCH
  phase. This ensures counter correctly reflects whether any rows were
  actually sent to the client.

495153feac MDEV-36893 THD::reset_sub_statement_state swaps with uninitialized structure
THD::reset_sub_statement_state and THD::restore_sub_staement_state
swap auto_inc_intervals_forced(Discrete_intervals_list) of a THD class
with a local variable temporary to execute other things before restoring
at the end of Table_triggers_list::process_triggers under a
rpl_master_erroneous_autoinc(true) condition as exposed by the
rpl.rpl_trigger test.

The uninitialized data isn't used and the only required action is to
copy the data in one direction. As the intent is for the auto_inc_intervals_forced
value to be overwritten or unused, MEM_UNDEFINED is used on it to
ensure the previous state is considered invalid.

The other uses of reset_sub_statement_state in Item_sp::execute_impl
also follow the same pattern of taking a copy to restore within the
same function.

e600f9aebb MDEV-35750 Change MEM_ROOT allocation sizes to reduse calls to malloc() and avoid memory fragmentation
This commit updates default memory allocations size used with MEM_ROOT
objects to minimize the number of calls to malloc().

Changes:
- Updated MEM_ROOT block sizes in sql_const.h
- Updated MALLOC_OVERHEAD to also take into account the extra memory
  allocated by my_malloc()
- Updated init_alloc_root() to only take MALLOC_OVERHEAD into account as
  buffer size, not MALLOC_OVERHEAD + sizeof(USED_MEM).
- Reset mem_root->first_block_usage if and only if first block was used.
- Increase MEM_ROOT buffers sized used by my_load_defaults, plugin_init,
  Create_tmp_table, allocate_table_share, TABLE and TABLE_SHARE.
  This decreases number of malloc calls during queries.
- Use a small buffer for THD->main_mem_root in THD::THD. This avoids
  multiple malloc() call for new connections.

I tried the above changes on a complex select query with 12 tables.
The following shows the number of extra allocations that where used
to increase the size of the MEM_ROOT buffers.

Original code:
- Connection to MariaDB: 9 allocations
- First query run: 146 allocations
- Second query run: 24 allocations

Max memory allocated for thd when using with heap table: 61,262,408
Max memory allocated for thd when using Aria tmp table: 419,464

After changes:
Connection to MariaDB:     0 allocations
- First run:              25 allocations
- Second run:              7 allocations

Max memory allocated for thd when using with heap table: 61,347,424
Max memory allocated for thd when using Aria table: 529,168

The new code uses slightly more memory, but avoids memory fragmentation
and is slightly faster thanks to much fewer calls to malloc().

page, and then requests lock_sys and/or record lock hash cell latch to
request record lock. lock_rec_unlock_unmodified() requests the latches
in the opposite order, what causes deadlocks. One of the possible
scenario for the deadlock is the following:

thread 1 - lock_rec_unlock_unmodified() is invoked under locks hash table
           cell latch, the latch is acquired;
thread 2 - purge thread acquires page latch and tries to remove
           delete-marked record, it invokes lock_update_delete(), which
           requests locks hash table cell latch, held by thread 1;
thread 1 - requests page latch, held by thread 2.

To fix it we need to release lock_sys.latch and/or lock hash cell latch,
acquire page latch and re-acquire lock_sys related latches.

When lock_sys.latch and/or lock hash cell latch are released in
lock_release_on_prepare() and lock_release_on_prepare_try(), the page on
which the current lock is held, can be merged. In this case the bitmap
of the current lock must be cleared, and the new lock must be added to
the end of trx->lock.trx_locks list, or bitmap of already existing lock
must be changed.

The new field trx_lock_t::set_nth_bit_calls indicates if new locks
(bits in existing lock bitmaps or new lock objects) were created during
the period when lock_sys was released in trx->lock.trx_locks list
iteration loop in lock_release_on_prepare() or
lock_release_on_prepare_try(). And, if so, we traverse the list again.

The block can be freed during pages merging, what causes assertion
failure in buf_page_get_gen(), as btr_block_get() passes BUF_GET as page
get mode to it. That's why page_get_mode parameter was added to
btr_block_get() to pass BUF_GET_POSSIBLY_FREED from
lock_release_on_prepare() and lock_release_on_prepare_try() to
buf_page_get_gen().

As searching for id of trx, which modified secondary index record, is
quite expensive operation, restrict its usage for master. System variable
was added to remove the restriction for testing simplifying. The
variable exists only either for debug build or for build with
-DINNODB_ENABLE_XAP_UNLOCK_UNMODIFIED_FOR_PRIMARY option to increase the
probability of catching bugs for release build with RQG.

Note that the code, which does primary index lookup to find out what
transaction modified secondary index record, is necessary only when
there is no primary key and no unique secondary key on replica with row
based replication, because only in this case extra X locks on unmodified
records can be set during scan phase.

1ed30e08af MDEV-34122: Assertion `entry' failed in Active_tranx::assert_thd_is_waiter
If semi-sync is switched off then on while a transaction is
in-between binlogging and waiting for an ACK, the semi-sync state of
the transaction is removed, leading to a debug assertion that
indicates the transaction tried to wait, but cannot receive an ACK
signal. More specifically, when semi-sync is switched off, the
Active_tranx list is cleared (where a transaction adds an entry to
this list during binlogging), and each entry in this list saves the
thread which will wait for an ACK, and the thread has the COND
variable to signal to wake itself. So if the entry is lost, the
Ack_receiver thread won’t be able to find the thread to wake up when
an ACK comes in

The fix is to ensure that the entry exists before awaiting the ACK,
and if there is no entry, skip the wait. In debug builds, an
informative message is written explaining that the transaction is
skipping its wait. Additional debug-build only logic is added to
ensure that the cause of the missing entry is due to semi-sync being
turned off and on

bddbef3573 MDEV-34533 asan error about stack overflow when writing record in Aria
The problem was that when using clang + asan, we do not get a correct value
for the thread stack as some local variables are not allocated at the
normal stack.

It looks like that for example clang 18.1.3, when compiling with
-O2 -fsanitize=addressan it puts local variables and things allocated by
alloca() in other areas than on the stack.

The following code shows the issue

Thread 6 "mariadbd" hit Breakpoint 3, do_handle_one_connection
    (connect=0x5080000027b8,
    put_in_cache=<optimized out>) at sql/sql_connect.cc:1399

THD *thd;
1399      thd->thread_stack= (char*) &thd;
(gdb) p &thd
(THD **) 0x7fffedee7060
(gdb) p $sp
(void *) 0x7fffef4e7bc0

The address of thd is 24M away from the stack pointer

(gdb) info reg
...
rsp            0x7fffef4e7bc0      0x7fffef4e7bc0
...
r13            0x7fffedee7060      140737185214560

r13 is pointing to the address of the thd. Probably some kind of
"local stack" used by the sanitizer

I have verified this with gdb on a recursive call that calls alloca()
in a loop. In this case all objects was stored in a local heap,
not on the stack.

To solve this issue in a portable way, I have added two functions:

my_get_stack_pointer() returns the address of the current stack pointer.
The code is using asm instructions for intel 32/64 bit, powerpc,
arm 32/64 bit and sparc 32/64 bit.
Supported compilers are gcc, clang and MSVC.
For MSVC 64 bit we are using _AddressOfReturnAddress()

As a fallback for other compilers/arch we use the address of a local
variable.

my_get_stack_bounds() that will return the address of the base stack
and stack size using pthread_attr_getstack() or NtCurrentTed() with
fallback to using the address of a local variable and user provided
stack size.

Server changes are:

- Moving setting of thread_stack to THD::store_globals() using
  my_get_stack_bounds().
- Removing setting of thd->thread_stack, except in functions that
  allocates a lot on the stack before calling store_globals(). When
  using estimates for stack start, we reduce stack_size with
  MY_STACK_SAFE_MARGIN (8192) to take into account the stack used
  before calling store_globals().

I also added a unittest, stack_allocation-t, to verify the new code.
