The -B throughput loop waited once for DEFAULT_TIMEOUT_SEC (2 s) and, on timeout, skipped the read but still compared the buffers. Later chunks passed by accident because tx_buffer is reused and rx_buffer held the previous echo, but a late first echo compared against an unfilled rx_buffer and failed with "Compare TX and RX buffers failed". This shows up as a flaky DTLS-MTU suite case under CI load. Retry the select on timeout for up to 5 periods, and fail with an explicit timeout or select error instead of comparing unread data.
